DE Senate Vote on Death Penalty Repeal

After giving up on changing the sentences for current death row murderers, the Senate passed over bipartisan and law enforcement opposition to repeal the state death penalty. The bill goes on the House. 3 Republicans crossed over to support the bill, led by the Minority Leader.

  1. It’s unfortunate that our legislators can’t seem to understand that we are separate from Maryland.

  2. I don’t know, maybe those 3 Republicans had the mistaken impression that they represent all the people of their district and not just some of them. You guys can re-educate them next primary.

Perhaps we need to re-educate you next election; you have the new virus “Progresso Liberalitis.” Re-education is the only antidote.

  4. Obama sentences people to death every time he authorizes a drone strike on an individual. Does that make him not a liberal?
I’m not sure I would label someone a liberal for voting against the death penalty. It’s a tough issue, and religion may influence someone’s position.

  5. I do not understand FBH why so many liberals are silent about the prospect of killing suspects remotely, but have a problem with executing someone duly convicted, reviewed, appealed, and reviewed again. It seems backwards.

I respect people’s beliefs on both sides of this issue. I see it as an issue of conscience. I have my view as expressed in Romans 13 and Genesis 9:6. I think it is an issue of justice. I do have concerns with the Supreme Court of the United States focusing on process not innocence. Ignoring evidence of innocence is the essence of violating due process. We don’t have a fairness system, we have a justice system.

I am not happy with this vote, but I do understand and respect both sides.

  6. “Obama sentences people to death every time he authorizes a drone strike on an individual. Does that make him not a liberal?” – FBH

I don’t know what conservative and liberal mean anymore. But I do know that drone strikes makes Obomba a murderer.

  7. I think the more relevant division is between those of us left, center, and right who respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the elite who do not.

  8. “Perhaps we need to re-educate you next election; you have the new virus ”

Nah. No need. I’m not running of anything. I just vote. But, I’m sure you guys can have fun re-educating Lopez and if you can’t re-educate him there’s always the primary.
