DE Charter School Students Win Scholarships

51 DELAWARE CHARTER SCHOOLS STUDENTS RECEIVE 2009 MICHAEL C. FERGUSON ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The 2009 Michael Ferguson Achievement Award Winners were recently announced by the Delaware Department of Education and 51 students from Delaware charter schools were among those recognized. Hanna Kempton of Charter School of Wilmington and Elliot Hale and Erin Simmons, of Newark Charter School were among the five students in the state to be awarded for their academic accomplishments in math, reading and writing. Ten charter school students were among the 31 students who were recognized for academic accomplishments in two areas.
The Michael C. Ferguson Achievement Awards Scholarship Program, recognizes students who demonstrate superior performance on the Grade 8 and 10 reading, writing and mathematics assessments administered as the Delaware Student Testing Program. The highest scoring students receive the scholarships. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded for achievement in each assessment area.

Michael Fergusen was probably the most competent public servant the State of Delaware ever saw. His untimely death from cancer was a true loss for all of our citizens.
