Members of the RFP (Presidential Guard) on Thursday, have seized and are now holding the acting President, Prime Minister and two cabinet ministers of the West African nation of Burkina Faso. The action was takenin an apparent coup against the transitional government , formed after the former Burkinabe President, Blaise Compaore, was ousted after street demonstrations in the capital of Ouagadougou, last month.
The ruling military council has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew, closed the nation’s air and land borders and ordered radio stations Burkina Faso to cease broadcasting until further notice.
The captured transition government officials are reportedly being held at the Presidential Palace by a group of Compore loyalists, according to an AFP report.
Shots were fired in suppression of street demonstrations that erupted in Ouagadougou in protest of the military takeover, yesterday.
