Conservative Values Win–VA Democrat Primary

It is Bob McDonnell v. Creigh Deeds in Virginia. Evil Gun toting, traditional marriage supporting, anti-emissions cap, self proclaimed conservative Republican now faces good guy gun toting, traditional marriage supporting, anti-emissions cap self proclaimed conservative Democrat. Once again it does make one wonder about those who say Republicans need to abandon traditional marriage and gun rights.
Deeds record is not Conservative. The truth is Deeds was the most conservative of the 3 Democrats in the primary. 2 of whom ran to the left while he repositioned himself on the right. He is a tax hiker, radical pro-abortion rights, trial lawyer who seems to end up on both sides of important issues. If AG McDonnell presents a solid plan, the race is his to win. Deeds conservative posturing will fall apart due to his opposition to banning partial birth abortion and undermining parental notification supported by his own Democrat governor, along with his votes going all the way back to 1995 against tax cuts and for fee increases. Unlike Deeds’ fellow Democrats, His Republican opponent will not let him get away from his record.

As a former resident of the Old Dominion, I do follow their politics. McAuliffe was a corporate hustler who ‘knew when to fold ‘em’ and leave others holding the bag. This left him with a lot of money to play politics. He ran a slick and costly campaign. Three-way races can produce interesting results. McAuliffe could triangulate a bit and appear ‘moderate’. The radical in the race was Moran. Deeds played the ‘gun card’ and took heat from it from his opponents. They failed to recognize that the RKBA has become another third rail in politics.
With the bloom off of the Obama rose, Republicans are in a good position in the Virginia race after this primary.
It makes those GOP consultants who wasted money in the Democrat primary fighting the candidate (T. M.) they wanted, look stupid. The Republicans didn’t learn from the Howard Dean fiasco where the Club for Growth spent lots of money in Iowa to stop Dean. Why? If you are going to play in the other guy’s turf (dubious strategy), at least try to booster the weakest candidate in the general. Don’t stop the otherside from making an unforced error. It is like diving out to save a ball sent out by the other team.
McAuliffe and Moran did the same thing Huckabee and Romney did….split the vote, handing the nomination to the ‘moderate.’
