Congressman Castle Asked Us to Publish this

Oct 9th, 2009 by David Anderson

Dear Friends:

It has been my distinguished honor to serve the great people of Delaware both as your Governor and as your Representative in the United States Congress. It has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to have received your trust and support. Today, I ask you to once again place your trust in me as I announce my candidacy for the United States Senate.

More than ever, it is critical that Delaware has an experienced, independent voice in the United States Senate.

These are challenging times. The economy is struggling and we all know family, friends and neighbors who have faced job loss and financial stress. Our top focus must be sustainable economic growth and job creation.

Washington should take the lead from American families who are living within a budget and make common sense adjustments to match the economic times in which we live. Spending in Washington has simply gone too far and is not the path back to economic prosperity.

With threats to Americans, both at home and serving abroad, our diplomatic relations and our leadership position in the world has never been more crucial.

Health care continues to consume Washington. By working together, we can make health care more affordable and accessible, without jeopardizing what currently works or driving our nation farther into debt.

Now is not the time for partisan rancor and roadblocks, but for workable, commonsense solutions to prevail. Everyday this is what I fight for in the Congress and how I led as Governor. In the Senate, I believe I can have an even broader impact on bringing these solutions to the table and getting the job done for Delaware.

Here at home, we have found ways to work together to solve problems, and I am committed to making government work in Washington.

I am very excited and energized for this race and look forward to seeing you over the next year!

Sincerely,

Mike Castle
United States Congressman for Delaware

Editor’s Note: We are honored that the Congressman considers this blog’s readers an important constituency and we look forward to a continued relationship even though we lean more to his opponent in the primary. His 42 years of service earn him a place here whenever he wants it.

    -hahahaha right

  2. on 09 Oct 2009 at 15:002David Anderson

I am sure Mr. Biden III would be more independent.

Castle is a Tool and most folks agree when discussing the matter privately, why they can’t bring themselves to say so in public is more their issue than mine, so be it.

    Jump that Shark though …

Why is there such a slash and burn mentality among conservatives today? Won’t we need Congressman Castle and his voters if we pull an upset? Are we not one party?

Hey, I am old school. I call President Obama that not Obama or Barrack or BHO. If the highest elected official of my party asks me if I would post something, It is done unless it violates the terms that I set out. If it is not newsworthy enough (in my judgment) to go on the front page, it will go on the first draft page. I was always taught to respect those who have rule over you. I may disagree with them at times, but I try not to be disrespectful. The man is my Congressman and he made the request through the man we elected to be state chair. That is good enough for me.

I don’t think the Castle crowd has me confused with being a supporter. They do know that I am fair. I was hoping that you would see the difference, Matt. This blog is to inform the right of center community and those who are willing to read our side of the argument. I want someone like Mr. Castle to be as at home reading the blog as someone like me. I want the entire roc community to find us provocative and informative and maybe persuade them to be more consistently conservative. I can’t do that by poking them in the eye. If a man who has supported hundreds of Republican candidates and served the public 42 years, is not worthy of my respect, then what right do I have to sanctimonious lecture people about civility and unity?

Hey I even gave Rep. Atkins and Scott their time when they requested it and they are Democrats. Why would I dis the elder statesman of my own party? Wisdom says don’t burn your bridges. In a small state like this one, creating enemies is not wise. People can accept that you may not support them right now, but they long remember if you make it personal.

So call it A-kissing if you want, but I can’t persuade people if they don’t read. I will make my choice based upon fundamental principles, but I refuse to shut the rest of the world out.

Show me where Ms. O’Donnell is going to get better coverage that she doesn’t pay for this month. She is a terrific person who will make a first rate Senator or whatever office she holds. She too is worthy of respect.

I have been getting calls from supporters on both sides asking me to back their candidate. I want both sides to read the blog. If I turn it over to one side, I lose half of the readers. What do I do? It is simple to me. Do what I said I would do originally. Be fair in the coverage to all Republican candidates even in primaries. I will endorse my choice and push that case in my time, but like a newspaper I would not stop covering the other candidate fairly. The other contributors have opinions. This is not a one man show. Should they be forced to go along? I don’t think all of the other contributors are ready to make the leap.

I respect my friend’s opinion, but that is why he is on the outside of the system yelling. The only way he is going to get back in will be by kiss-A people like me holding the door open.

Castle is so full of crap, if he took an Ex-Lax, he’d disappear.

  7. on 10 Oct 2009 at 10:447Dave

DA — You’re handling things 100% appropriately. Don’t let the talkers get you down.

  8. on 10 Oct 2009 at 12:258Perry

From the other side, I agree with you Dave!

  9. on 10 Oct 2009 at 13:079annoni

I hope CO is smart enough to skip the primary with Castle and run for the house seat (or some other race). I doubt it, but a guy can hope.

  10. on 10 Oct 2009 at 19:0910Art Downs

Castle will not be as bad as his opponent.
Not much better, but marginal gains are worth taking.

Perhaps it might be too much to hope for a primary for both parties.

We need to rally around the nominee in the General Election.

    More mush from the wimp.

    *yawn*

    Castle is a Tool…
So are you, Opaliski, as you huddle with those you yammer with, thinking you are the collective savior to all of society’s ills, but instead casting vile, dripping hatred upon those that dare disagree a tiny bit from your broad-brushed intolerance. Group-think is an amazing thing, isn’t it?
I can’t believe I ever respected you. Of course, that’s when you realized the world has more than a singular view.

Funny thing is, if you can see it through that unilateral group-view, I chastized David for giving off a pro-O’Donnell view on this blog and another blog, but his one attempt at being fair, pre-primary, you cast him as a tool. I guess you and your group haven’t bleached the ranks enough yet, eh?
(“bleach” was meant as a disinfectant/purification method, not any reference to race)

  13. on 12 Oct 2009 at 12:2013David Anderson

I will be fair every time I have a chance. As long as the Castle camp desires to communicate with us, they will be rewarded with respect incumbent to the decades of leadership shown by Congressman Castle. I may not always agree with the Congressman, but that does not diminish the respect I have for him and his record of service. I am a tool. A tool for informing the people without media editing so they can get the straight picture. I won’t be a cheer leader for him, but that is not what they are asking of me. I think we both can live with fair coverage.

As for Matt, I hope he is right. I say to him go out there and convince the voters. I love your enthusiasm forgive me if I don’t have the same style. I love the GOP. I want to see it succeed and that can’t happen if we can not talk with one another.

Thank you for the back up.

  14. on 12 Oct 2009 at 14:2514RSmitty

Well, David, so long as there are groups out there seeking to “expose and rid the RINOs out of the DE GOP” and “RINO” is cleverly used in a blog topic where the tone is heavy disdain against another Republican, this:

I want to see it succeed and that can’t happen if we can not talk with one another

will never happen. It’s called intolerance.

  15. on 12 Oct 2009 at 15:1415David

You, Matt, and I are talking. If it can work for us….
