Comment Rescue: It’s Time To Give Up This Outrage
Apr 1st, 2009 by RSmitty
I am rescuing my own comment from Elbert’s “Elbert With an ‘E’” blog post.
Linked above, pasted below:
OK, it’s time to give up this outrage. The name given to this event was developed by bloggers (possibly DD, I believe), not Governor Markell or any of his staff. It was indeed a MISNOMER by calling it a “Delaware” Bloggers Roundtable. Maybe A-Selected-Few-Who-Happen-to-Live-Locally-to-Panera-on-Main-Street-in-Newark-Delaware-Bloggers-Roundtable would have been much better, or maybe a Whole-Bunch-of-Loony-Liberals-and-a-possibly-Libertarian-and-a-Progressive-Republican-almost-Independent-But-Still-in-Vicinity-of-Panera-on-Main-Street-in-Newark-Delaware-Bloggers-Roundtable would have sufficed, too.
Point is, this appears that it will be just the first of more. Problem is scheduling, so future dates may take a little time. Obviously, I am not the scheduler, so I can’t say for 100%.
At first blow, I found all this to be a little humorous, in a literal sense, not sarcastic. Considering the life it has now developed, anonymous commenters included, it’s gone to the level of rediculous. Governor Markell did something yesterday that his predecessor wouldn’t be caught dead doing, let alone even entertaining the idea. He didn’t meet with our group because we are better or easier than anyone else. He was already booked for meetings in Newark at 8:30 yesterday morning, so he wedged in a meeting beforehand. It was an opportunity that presented itself and he (he and his staff) made it happen. Just imagine how this would have been handled with Minner. Please.
If you are still reading at this point, the possibility of more of these, in other locations in the state, is open. The hysteria, though, doesn’t exactly make it all that inviting though. For crying out loud, criticize his politics, his budget, his progams, etc. all you want. Leave his character or your perceived intentions out of it. It’s misplaced anger and it completely erodes and belittles any legitimate point you are trying to make.
For me, THANK YOU GOVERNOR MARKELL AND YOUR STAFF FOR PARTICIPATING. There is absolutely no way your predecessor would have done this with any crowd. I look forward to this event repeating itself in other locations in the state, as well, and do hope that I get to participate in something similar again in the future.
In the words of my FRIENDS over “there,” it was TEH Awesome!

I hope there are more, but after yesterday’s comment section across the blogosphere, I’m not holding my breath.

Forget yesterday: if he invited anybody based on what the blogosphere looks like on a given day, he knew what he was going to get.
Besides, if access to Jack for a few minutes is purchased at the price of “being good” thereafter, who would want it?
Maria’s goal was to derail “the good” that came of the meeting then she had 24 hours of success. That makes me sad, but I am even sadder that we let her get away with it.
Steve, I agree with not having to “be good,” but could we at least try for substantive?
Getting more of the details brings understanding but it sure did look like favoritism from my prospective. Maybe Brian Selander will set up something in the future with a mixed group instead of just a “mixed-up” or “messed-up” group.
oh, good. So now that you have more of the story we should be able to find the “I have egg on my face” for jumping to conclusions post?
