Colley Fires Fink

Jul 22nd, 2010 by Tennessee Walker

Jud Bennett in his newsletter reports that Bill Colley has kicked Shaun Fink off of his Monday afternoon show. Jud has his own views as to why this happenned and I will quote his letter.  Before I do so I will remind all that Jud Bennett does not operate a website. Instead he has newsletter that in my view is a must read for Conservatives.  You can get on Jud’s list by emailing: pilotajb@verizon.net

I urge all who want to stay informed to do so.  I am posting Jud’s views here.  There is follow up from both Shaun Fink and Bill Colley.

As is typical Jud has a particular point of view.  Jud has no problem expressing himself.

TEST ON WGMD–Colley to Fink–”Don’t come around here no more”.

Dear Friends,

Like most happenings in Sussex County, everything finds its way to the Coastal Network. This is one I couldn’t resist jumping on.

Self proclaimed CONSERVATIVE Litmus Test Guide and Judge, WGMD afternoon Talk Show Host, Bill Colley has pulled the plug on his regular Monday guest– the extremely popular Caesar Rodney Institute VP–Shaun Fink. Hell, I turned on 92.7 FM  every Monday just to listen to Shaun’s articulate and well thought out ideas. Shaun made the Colley show special without a doubt. Interestingly, Shaun Fink is a conservative, but apparently, not conservative enough. Shaun feels the conservative movement in Delaware is leaderless–he’s right, but according to Colley-that’s offensive stuff and not allowed on his show. Colley attacks vehemently anybody who doesn’t measure up to his standards–whatever they are? He also pulls no punches to say the least– not exactly a draw for WGMD’s advertisers these days?

I always wondered how some folk’s categorizations develop??Indeed there are liberal ideas, moderate ideas, and conservative ideas, but the vitriol that I hear sometimes from Colley makes me wince. Compromise which is the essence of democracy is perhaps the conservative cardinal sin. There must be a list that Bill has developed–a litmus test that one has to comply with to be considered worthy by him. Perhaps Bill will tell us what the rules are according to Colley, so we Delawareans are all extremely clear for future reference??”

I got a Bill Colley story right along these lines.

Man is mean and nasty and yes, he is the arbiter of it all.

Let me gather my wits cause this story is good.

The man hates and despises women. Ever notice that he can’t seem to keep one?

I love Shaun Fink. He was a very gifted, soft-spoken commenter. I never listen to Bill Colley cause of what he did to me once….so awful that I’ll never forget it.

Dan Gaffney even got involved with it.

I love ya Shaun and even stomached Colley to hear you.

  2. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:302Pat Fish

BTW, the Conservative movement in Delaware IS leaderless.

    It ain’t rocket science.

  3. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:313Tennessee Walker

    Pat You’re fired.

    Hugs and Kisses
    Bill Colley

  4. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:354Pat Fish

    ;)

Whatever the case, I would sure like to have Shaun Fink back.

    He was really, really good.

  5. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:435Shaun Fink

Pat, I am humbled by your sentiments and truly appreciate your encouragement. Thank you. Time to look for the next opportunity…

  6. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:446Tennessee Walker

More important than what I have posted prior is that Shaun and his lovely wife Jennifer have given amply of their time and energy to every Conservative Campaign out there. The entire family was recognized for their efforts on the Booth and King special elections (Maybe this is Shaun’s real crime.)
Shaun and Jennifer gave volunteer time and also enlisted the efforts of their children Rachel, Abigail, John, and Nate.
The next time one sees Bill Colley actually knock on a voter’s door will be the first time.

  7. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:477David Anderson

Pat, don’t worry, Shaun isn’t fired from our team.

  8. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:508Stossel-Fan

This is just another example of why the media and many in the general public are so turned off by the so-called conservative movement. If you dare to disagree on anything, if you are not idealogically pure, it’s off with your head. Talk about intolerance.

  9. on 22 Jul 2010 at 12:569David Anderson

That is a big jump. Look at the progressive side for internal conflict. ACORN, Delaware Liberal, the Fund for a Femiinist Majority versus NOW are just a few examples. I chalk this up more to a personal difference. Overlooked is that Colley gave a slot for two years to his show.

These arrangements rarely last that long. I am grateful that Shaun is part of our community and CRI. He is no less of a leader in our movement today than Monday.

  10. on 22 Jul 2010 at 13:1810fightingbluehen

This infighting is just what the Democrats want.

  11. on 22 Jul 2010 at 13:1811Stossel-Fan

    Dave,
If you read Bill Colley’s “explanation” of why he fired Shaun which is part of Jud’s email, you’ll see Colley admits it was Shaun’s comments on the radio that resulted in the firing. Presumably, if Shaun’s comments had been more in line with Colley’s view, then Shaun would still be welcomed. So, in the world according to Colley, you can be on his show if you agree with him, but if you disagree, you’re out. To me, that’s close-minded and intolerant; I don’t know what others would call it.

  12. on 22 Jul 2010 at 13:2312anontoo

Shaun said what needed to be said. The conservative movement has always been about the vigorous debate of ideas. Today’s “conservatives” are just angry and in opposition to everything the other side does. There’s no leadership there. Bravo to Shaun for calling it like it is.

  13. on 22 Jul 2010 at 13:2613David Anderson

I’d call it his show. People tune in or not because of his views and style. It is his choice to have who he wants by his side. I don’t call that intolerant. I call that freedom of association. We thought about having a liberal Democrat give his perspective as a writer, but we decided it wouldn’t work out, mutually. The guy has given a guest opinion and is still welcome to comment. It wasn’t intolerance, it was the fact that we were not going the same direction.

I have not heard the comments, yet. I support Shaun as a valued member and leader of the Conservative movement regardless whether I turn out to agree or disagree with him when I hear it.

  14. on 22 Jul 2010 at 13:4314LiberalGeek

I feel like I’ve arrived or something… This is fun. I just want to see what happens when the power shifts to the jury and the people that you voted out get to decide who wins the million dollars.

Shaun Fink, the tribe has spoken.

OMG. Bill Colley Fired Shaun Fink for Blasting Glen Urquhart.

Glen is not a true conservative. “Where are the true conservative…?” as of today, I know of none, none that are visionary, none that can lead without pointing fingers and calling people names.” Shaun said on Monday

“This is the way Shaun Fink thinks about it” Glen Urquhart. “You don’t convince people, by yelling at them, screaming at them, pointing fingers and calling them names.” said Shaun Fink to about the so called conservative.

  18. on 22 Jul 2010 at 18:1118Windjammer

    Hey, Blowhard Bill,
If Shaun Fink isn’t conservative for you, I certainly don’t know who is. On another thought, who the heck died and left you the big judgment king of who is conservative and who is not.
I heard that you got fired from a radio station in Syracuse NY for much the same crap. With any luck you’ll find something you’re more suited for than judging people who differ from your opinion in minor details. Don’t go away mad, Just go away!

  19. on 22 Jul 2010 at 19:2919cookie

I guess the Big Guy can’t take a little criticism.

  20. on 22 Jul 2010 at 21:2020DEConservative(EvanQ)

Why do I feel like I’ve entered a mid-day soap opera?

I like Shaun, and he’s got a point. There is no clear leader of the conservative movement in Delaware but without knowing the context, perhaps he misses the point. The movement doesn’t NEED a “leader”, that’s what makes it grassroots and spontaneous. That’s what makes it real.

Now, as for his comment about there not being anyone who is a “vissionary, who can lead without pointing fingers”…my question is who would he suggest we call “our leader”? Him? If not him, who? Glen Urquhart is making his case for why he should be elected and for why Michele Rollins is the wrong choice.

Shaun is indeed a very intelligent and thoughtful man but he also, unfortunately has been linked to the GOP elite in Delaware which taints him to some degree among those in the conservative ranks. I hope that Shaun does indeed emerge a leader in the conservative movement and brings his knowledge and spirit to work to reform Delaware’s GOP and to purge the Progressives like Castle and Rollins from the ranks. It remains to be seen however, if he will work to that end. For instance, will he work to reelect Booth, or will he tend toward the more conservative Bodenweiser?

  21. on 22 Jul 2010 at 21:2621Rick

Of course a guy (Bennett) who almost single-handedly got a communist elected to the Sussex County Council would despise a true conservative like Colley.

  22. on 23 Jul 2010 at 05:2322Chris Slavens

Are we going to talk about what the Monday segment was really about? I heard it and was shocked. Everyone has a right to express his opinion, but in expressing his, Fink belittled (to put it mildly) the hard work that hundreds of individuals are doing to advance the cause of limited government in Delaware. The conservative movement he spoke of is certainly not the movement I know.

This is an assumption, and I could be wrong, but it seemed to me that Fink was criticizing some of the new conservative groups (like 9/12, maybe), which are supportive of non-establishment candidates like Urquhart and O’Donnell.

  23. on 23 Jul 2010 at 05:5523Frank Knotts

Just my luck, I almost never miss that Monday segment with Shaun. This one I did. So not knowing what was actually said and by who I can’t speak on the topic. I will however say that Shaun has been coming on the Colley show for a long time, well before he became E.V.P. for CRI. He has always given his honest opinion of the current climate of the political world. Sounds like he did just that this time also.
The little I do know about Shaun tells me that groups such as 9/12 Delaware Patriots might go against his vision of how to get things done. Shaun had been a loyal and hard working GOP party member, who worked his heart out on many campiagns.
I could be wrong and please Shaun correct me if I am, but Shaun may be missing that aspect of his life. Since becoming an employee of CRI, he is not even allowed to come to a Sussex County GOP monthly meeting. For someone who was so involved in shaping policy for the party, this must leave him chomping at the bit.
While the work he is doing with CRI is important, it may not give him the same sense of accomplishment.
I have always felt that Shaun should run for office. And maybe in the future he will. Whatever he does, I can guarantee you that he will do it with integrity and honesty.
Good luck Shaun and I will miss calling into Bill’s show and getting your unique perspective.

    “a true conservative like Colley”

Back to our conversation from the other day, anyone who has read Burke, Buckley, Kirk, etc would not make that statement. Bill Colley is the antithesis of what traditional conservatism was all about. He’s a blowhard that preys on low-information members of society who don’t know any better.

  25. on 23 Jul 2010 at 07:4425Shaun Fink

    Chris,

Perhaps you have not read my statement. I support the grassroots movement. I have had the distinct privilege of speaking to many of these groups over the past 18 months. The are the good, conservative minded people that I reference in the quote from my statement below.

My concerns are not about them, at all. I am speaking to the lack of vision associated with those who want to be supported by these fine groups.

    Please read the below excerpt…

“To be clear, I am not speaking of the good, conservative minded people who fill the seats at the rallies and are watching the American dream fade before their eyes with grave concern. I am speaking directly of those who have taken advantage of that fear and anxiety in order to advance their own agendas. I am not speaking of the grass-roots organizations and thousands of Delawareans who are fed up with the status quo. I am speaking of those who have squandered the past year focused on building up their own names at the costly expense of not advancing a substantial purpose or vision.”

  26. on 23 Jul 2010 at 08:0626Pat Fish

Well Shaun does not name names but why do I get the distinct feeling he refers to Urquhart?

Which doesn’t bother me because as is his way with words, surpassed only by myself, he does it well and with class. Well maybe not that class part….for me.

    heh.

I like Shaun, enjoy his commentary and would like to see him run for an office someday.

I’ll even forgive that he likes Castle and Rollins if that be the case cause hey, it’s his vote.

  27. on 23 Jul 2010 at 08:3827Rick

He’s a blowhard that preys on low-information members of society who don’t know any better.

Perfect description of the liberal media operatives who got BO elected- once.

Bill Colley – well I could write volumes – none of which are nice – so if you remove this post I will understand.

he is a race-baiting, hate-mongering, blowhard that pretty much dislikes anyone who is not:
male, white, Catholic, over-weight, middle-aged and racist.

He rabble rouses on air- and baits people – decries Carper and Castle then simpers like a dog when they come on his show and soft-balls the interview

in short he is an unprincipaled coward that thinks he is soooo important that the “government is probing my affairs” – quote from him…

Cuba, NY does not want him back and we are stuck with him – I pity his daughter – who he uses as another tool in his posts and blogs and exposes her life to public scrutiny

    the man has no shame

now that we have determined what he is – I suppose the only question is – ‘How Much?”

  30. on 23 Jul 2010 at 09:1930Rick Wilson

Dictator Bill Colley is really close to Hitler ,

    Note from Tennessee Walker:

Mr. Wilson as you have noticed I have severely truncated your comment. We are very lenient here and while I don’t personally like Hitler comparisons because they are overdone and usually inaccurate, the part of your comment that is left technically does not violate our rules. The rest of your post while technically containing no obscenities alleges behavior for which you provide no evidence. This is a smear that I personally will not tolerate.
If you have information that can back your claims than feel free to contact us. For my part you can consider this a warning. Any further comments along these lines, I will simply delete.

This was on Google—-WGMD’s Bill Colley said he wanted to avoid ranting in 2004 at his old job? Personally, as one who rants myself– I can’t complain about that. It is indeed curious, however– that big Bill is a ranting dude these days on his 3 to 7 PM talk show on WGMD FM–92.7 on your dial. :) :) :) :) ?? Dial in the link below to read more.

As to Rick’s nasty comment-#20– Rick you flatter me, but if it’s true–Baker ran a personal/ smear campaign (made my very sick wife cry), while he went on his knees with his mouth open for the PGA– so I helped give the PGA Deaver. I’m a Christian, but rarely turn the other cheek. I eat nails for breakfast these days, and nobody except God can hurt me. My revenge was sweet. Not so so sweet now, I must admit. Deaver’s on her own next time. I’ll rub this in as well: Castle will beat Christine O’Donnell like a drum, and Rollins will beat Urquhart by 15 points. I’m helping big time with that, and it could be the defining difference in the Rollins/ Urquhart race. I still have some lead in my old pencil. As to my friend Shaun Fink–he’s a good man and was hurt by a mean spirited person whose vitriol only diminishes the conservative movement for intelligent people. As I told Mr. Colley in a reply to a snide remark he made via e-mail, ” I was here long before he arrived, and I’ll be here long after he is gone.

  32. on 23 Jul 2010 at 12:0632Pat Fish

I do think that Castle will beat O’Donnell.

I think the contest between Urquhart and Deaver will be close. Fifteen points? Jud, you dream.

Still, I will support Rollins should she win the nomination. I am suspicious of the woman but will give her every benefit of the doubt.

I will not support Castle as that all ended when he voted for Cap and Trade. Votes have consequences and Castle’s vote for that legislation that even those most rabid amongst us cannot justify as good for Delaware in any form or fashion, deserves some consequences. And I know it’s got to be difficult for you Castle supporters to defend….dear Lord why don’t you all get together and tell your guy to knock it off?

Deaver. She really is a piece of Communist crud.

  33. on 23 Jul 2010 at 13:3233Apo Whichiapi

    Jud – I agree

Rollins over Urquhart and Castle over O’Donnell

Oh and you have always eaten nails for breakfast and never apologized for it
Now – how do we get rid of Colley and the damage he’s doing??

  34. on 23 Jul 2010 at 14:4934Rick Wilson

How much of the content in your blog shows “evidence and accuracy ?

    Thank you

I’m glad that being told that you were instrumental in getting a commie elected ‘flatters’ you. Well, if the shoe fits…

“I eat nails for breakfast these days..”…Jud

Then summon-up the courage to call Colley’s show, rather than whine on the internet.

..and Rollins will beat Urquhart by 15 points. I’m helping big time with that……Jud

Spoken like a true country-club Republican liberal.

Yep, I do belong to a few country clubs, swim a mile every morning, fish in the Delaware Bay all summer, go to all of the U of D football games every Saturday, watch my Ravens on Sunday, and spend the winter in Key Largo. I write on my Coastal network daily. Life is good-regardless of what you want to call me. I don’t care. :) :) . Rick, Even you are welcome–send me your e-mail to pilotajb@verizon.net.

Gee…A+ for Jud on his ‘how I spent my summer vacation’ essay.

Ha! OK–Folks, have fun–I know the results already. I hear Colley is entertaining Rich Collins tomorrow (tuesday) to attack John Atkins for passing a law to allow Denny Cordry (County employeee–soon to retire) to run against Vance Phillips and still collect a pension.. I’m endorsing Cordry right now and he will beat Phillips come November. Hate me Hate Me–I love it.
