Christmas Thoughts
Dec 24th, 2009 by Timothy Pancoast
In spite of everything that is going on with politics, the economy, and the government there is still hope. The hope lies in Jesus Christ, not in Washington D.C. or in any of the people that work there. So, for a little while I am going to turn my thoughts away from what happens inside the beltway and focus on things that matter and bring hope. To help with that I thought I’d just share a couple of poems that express our real hope.
The Bells
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.
I thought how as the day had come
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair, I bowed my head:
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said,
‘For hate is strong and mocks the song,
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.’
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep;
‘God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With Peace on earth, good will to men’.
-by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Christmas Everywhere
Everywhere, everywhere, Christmas tonight!
Christmas in lands of the fir-tree and pine,
Christmas in lands of the palm-tree and vine,
Christmas where snow peaks stand solemn and white,
Christmas where cornfields stand sunny and bright.
Christmas where children are hopeful and gay,
Christmas where old men are patient and gray,
Christmas where peace, like a dove in his flight,
Broods o’er brave men in the thick of the fight;
Everywhere, everywhere, Christmas tonight!
For the Christ-child who comes is the Master of all:
No palace to great, no cottage too small.
-by Phillips Brooks
Have a good night everyone and a Merry Christmas!

Well said, I could not think of anything better today so I had a very simple post. Drive on, my brother. Merry Christmas.
