Election 2016 Delaware

Democrats did what they expected statewide. They went 4 for 4. The numbers were not as high as the highwater marks of 2008 but they still got the job done. 53% voted for Clinton. That proved to be the statewide floor not the ceiling. As expected, John Carney was the top vote getter. There are cracks in the state blue wall. The biggest upset of the night was President Pro Tem Patricia Blevins to rising conservative star Anthony Delcollo in the 7th Senate district. The District is 49% Democratic to only 23% Republican, but the Delcollo team pulled off a narrow upset. The campaign was run as close to a perfect campaign as can be imagined. Delcollo had a statewide presence. He ran a tireless campaign that now puts the GOP within one seat of its first majority in the state senate since 1972. Bethany Hall-Long's election to Lt. Governor will force it to be a 10 to 10 tie in 67 days. Read more

DON AYOTTE Comments on Election EVE

By: Wolf von Baumgart, Staff Writer On the day before the 2016 Delaware General Election, Independent Party of Delaware (IPoD) 20th District State Representative candidate Don Ayotte shares his thoughts: "America is at a most critical crossroads. The choices that we make will radically affect our future. We have a choice between living in a constitutional republic or a social dictatorship. That is why we must choose a path of individual freedom and liberty that will lead to greater prosperity. The alternative is very bleak indeed." "Fortunately, there is a new spirit of Independence dawning throughout the land. The special interest driven two-party system and its political polarization no longer serves the People. WE need a constructive independent alternative. That's why I am running to serve the people of the 20th District in the Delaware House of Representatives" Don Ayotte Read more

IPoD Breaks Registration Record Again

The Independent Party of Delaware (IPoD) has announced that it has surpassed its monthly voter registration for the second consecutive month. For the month of October, 606 voters joined its ranks, topping September's record high of 263. "Virtually all of this growth was organic and voter-initiated -- not the result of party-sponsored voting registration efforts, according to a party spokesman. "This figure was especially significant considering that voting registration for the 2016 general election closed on October 15. We have excellent chances to elect candidates on November 8.", he said. The majority of the expansion took place in New Castle County, followed by good numbers in Sussex and Kent counties. Highlights of Donald Trump’s Gettysburg Address:

“I’m not a politician, and have never wanted to be one. But when I saw the trouble our country was in, I knew I couldn’t stand by and watch any longer. Our country has been so good to me, I love our country, I felt I had to act,” said Mr. Trump in his address. “Change has to come from outside this broken system. The fact that the Washington establishment has tried so hard to stop our campaign is only more proof that our campaign represents the kind of change that only arrives once in a lifetime,” he continued. “I am asking the American people to rise above the noise and the clutter of our broken politics, and to embrace that great faith and optimism that has always been the central ingredient in the American character. I am asking you to dream big. “What follows is my 100-day action plan to Make America Great Again. It is a contract between Donald J. Trump and the Read more

OPEN THREAD: Clinton-Trump Debate [1]

About forty-five people gathered at the Cottage Cafe in Bethany Beach from 8-11 pm last night to watch the first 2016 presidential debate at a Sussex GOP sponsored event . There was much discussion beforehand (even out-talking the talking heads). However, everyone paid serious attention during the course of the debate, occasionally responding to the high points, especially the one-liners. Coincidentally, this was the 56th anniversary of the first Kennedy-Nixon Debate in 1960. Intelligent comments, your spin and/or good comedy lines are welcome. Read more

Clinton Admits Guns Protect Good People

Trump was right, if Clinton is so against guns, start with her bodyguards. He was not suggesting anyone attack her or even seriously suggesting that they do give up their weapons. The reaction from the Clinton campaign that such words are inciting violence proves that deep down they believe that guns in the hands of good people are positive. So they trust SOME people with guns, just not you.

Is this beyond the bounds? Judge for yourself.

Clinton Rushed Back to Campaign Trail

Why do they have her flying out to a speech added after the pneumonia diagnosis. Didn't the doctor say a week of rest? I would set up a studio in her home and do satellite links and radio talk show interviews. In this day of technology, there's no reason to risk your candidate. Have a surrogate go to NC then have her give a five minute link up speech from home. Michelle Obama is literally twice as popular and a better speaker. She is willing to go. This campaign defies my understanding. They should have cut half of the events Immediately Friday past. They let her literally run herself into the ground against medical advice and now she's back early. They are risking the first debate and maybe by default the campaign. Then again, I should be happy with their foolishness as a longtime critic. Could it be that deep down that I care more about her as a person than her own senior staff? Candidates Read more

Delaware Primaries Reshape Landscape

The Gordon-Williams-Stewart machine crumbled amid scandal and inability to meet challenges. One of the most interesting alliance in the Democratic Party has fallen. Voters turned out New Castle Executive Tom Gordon amid scandals and Mayor Dennis Williams due to the inability to even succeed in a presenting a credible plan to deal with crime, which was the former police officer's expertise. The Mayor did not even finish in the top 3. Mike Purzycki, who with the help of former Governor and Congressman Mike Castle, reregistered 1200 Republican voters, won. Karen Weldin Stewart had numerous stumbles in her first term that she never shook. Together the trio had been able to survive primary challenges. They lost an important ally, New Castle County President, Rev. Christopher Bullock who retired after only one term to focus on his church building project. Former Kent Countian, Common Cause Read more
