"When we started, I would have had a hard time finding two dimes to rub together, now we are going to hit ten million dollars this year", she said. That experience is why she believes unleashing the dreams in others like herself will unleash the economic engine of Delaware. Now she is taking that drive and attention to a new front, Delaware State Treasurer. Guest Post On the DE GOP Death Spiral

The Death Spiral of the Delaware GOP Decline is not a condition, it is a choice. The 2012 election has come and gone and at this point it has become clear the there are only a few things necessary to be elected to statewide office or County wide in New Castle County-be able to hear thunder and see lightning plus the most important thing you must be a Democrat. Yes, I poke a little fun at the Democrats but my point it is worthwhile to exam the demise of the Republican Party in Delaware and what to do about it. I bring a perspective which is varied as I have been on the outside looking in as a primary challenger and this year as the endorsed candidate for County Council President. Let me lay out the 2012 numbers first. I have all of the state wide candidates and my race (County Wide) as a comparison. Candidate Wilmington% NCC Rural% All NCC Romney Read more

Delaware Black Coaliton for Sher Supports Pro-education and Anti-Crime Platform

With a theme that Liberty for all cannot exist while some are victims of an broken education system and a building crime wave, Republican Lt. Gubenatorial candidate Cheryl "Sher" Valenzuela received the support of Dover City Councilman David Anderson who is launching a safe neighborhoods intiative for her announcement that Crime control, Education, and Economic vitality will be her focus the next four years. Valenzuela said the current approach to crime is not working, with home invasions from Greenville to Greenwood and Wilmington becoming a literal war zone, we need a better approach. "As women, we can't let our kids play in our front yards anymore without worrying what's going to happen, or walking to school. That's not right." She continued, "In his inauguration address, the current Lieutenant Governor said that he was going to deliver a public safety plan that would 'keep every street Read more

Valenzuela Questions Denn Claim

Shell Games Continue: Denn was paid thousands through Skadden Arps, one of world’s largest law firms, to do “free” work On the heels of last week’s revelation that Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn has shortchanged citizens by taking on a second job despite taking office in one of Delaware’s worst economic downturns, new information has emerged regarding claims Denn has made about “charity” legal work. Denn has bragged for years about his work as a young attorney providing “free” law work to people in a church basement legal clinic run by the Delaware Volunteer Legal Services. The story is a prominent part of Denn’s stump speech on the campaign trail. He’s often repeated it this year at candidate forums. But Denn always leaves out an important part of the story. Denn was actually on loan to the “volunteer” program from a multinational law firm. He Read more

Cruicial Races

I am concerned about the ramifications of this election. We as Delawareans need to look at the voting records of our elected officials and ask where do they stand on the big issues that affect our lives. I know that we will not agree with anyone on everything. As a tolerant people, we know that an elected official has to listen to many opinions and interests all with valid parts in their arguments. Still we have to ask, when it comes to the big issues, are we going in the right direction or the wrong direction? An easy example is looking at the contrast in local records. Representative Donald Blakey is voting for jobs, against tax hikes, for the family, and for common sense solutions. He works hard to serve the people. The same can be said of Representative Jack Peterman or Lincoln Willis (who is now being attacked for his votes for jobs, good government, and the family). The Read more

Alex Pires Gives Endorsement List

At Dover's Historic Union Missionary Baptist Church, Independent Senate Candidate made an interesting play. He endorsed two Democrats, two Republicans, and himself. The candidate's forum hosted by a group of churches that have majority black congregations, was attended by every state wide candidate except Tom Carper and Jack Markell and most of the local ones. Matt Denn had a prior engagement and showed up at the end. The big winner was Ben Mobley who wowed the crowd. He also picked up a surprise endorsement of Alex Pires who endorsed Sher Valenzuela, Jack Markell, and John Carney. It became quite clear what his strategy is. One, he wants the demographic of Sher and Ben. Two, he wants to tie himself to the popular Governor and Congressman. He is aligning himself with the winners. Three, it is interesting that the only way someone can support diversity in public office statewide Read more

Delaware’s Odd Couple?

For Immediate Release Valenzuela and Pires Set Aside Partisan Politics to Help Change the Status Quo Sher Valenzuela, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and Alex Pires, the Independent candidate for U.S. Senator, are at the center of two of the most energetic races in Delaware. Coming on the heels of Valenzuela's August appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa and Pires' aggressive campaign against incumbent Democratic Senator Thomas Carper, the two races have garnered considerable attention in recent months. Despite their positions on different sides of the ticket, not to mention differences in personal and political beliefs, the two candidates have come together over their shared belief that the status quo in Delaware is unacceptable. The pair will appear at a joint event on the Green at the University of Delaware this Saturday from noon to 1 Read more

Looking to the General

I am happy the primaries are over. Now it the time for us to focus on the prize. First let me get out of the way the endorsements to candidates that I did not endorse before the primary. Let's all rally together and put the primaries behind us. I believe that Republicans all across the state need to rally behind Dr. Ernie Lopez. He is a conservative (at least somewhat) who gains respect from across the political spectrum. He is bright, solutions oriented, and will help this party expand its base. I will be disappointed if we do not see him statewide in time. I give him an enthusiastic endorsement. I was never against him, I was for an even better candidate! As I am endorsing him with enthusiasm, I expect my moderate friends to do the same with Joe Miro or Don Ayotte. Let's be one party.  The people have spoken. Speaking of being one party, I also endorse Eric Bodenwiser. He Read more

In Case you missed our local Super Star Business woman, Sher Valenzuela

Check out our new page which will feature all things Cheryl "Sher" Valenzuela on the tab at the top of our home page. To the critics, this is the way it is supposed to be done. If you have a problem with minorities and women being given an equal shot too bad. The political attacks on the success of the Valenzuelas shows exactly what is wrong with too much of the Democrat party. They are leery of success. They don't honor those who work hard. They claim to want to make it easier for women and minorities to get access to the mainstream of American success and when they do-- Notice it is liberals attacking them not conservatives. Wisdom is justified of her children. Here is a great insight into our small business people of the year. Read more

Sher Pays It Forward

Sher Valenzuela A Small Business Resource Sher Valenzuela, candidate for Lt. Governor, wants starting a business and making it grow to be an easier endeavor than the one she went through with her husband, Eli, and business partner, Ashley Wolfe. Delaware Examiner Profile on Sher Valenzuela

Read this profile on one of the most interesting people on the ballot.  Full disclosure, Mrs. Valenzuela and I have been friends for 20 years.  I fully support Sher in her quest for public service because I know she will put her heart into it not check in part time. Sher is a wife and mother who with her husband started a micro business out of their garage so they could better provide for their family including a special needs child.  They wisely maneuvered through the maze of government red tape and found the resources available to help them expand and bless other families through hiring locally.  Now we can have the job creator, Matt Denn says wrote the book on how to succeed with small business aid share the book with you instead of a bankruptcy specialist who only works for you part time at 80k a year.  It is an incredible opportunity for Delaware voters.
