NRCC Take on the Castle Run »

Castle To Run

Oct 6th, 2009 by admin

Politico is reporting and I can confirm that Mike Castle will announce today at noon in Tubman Park that he is running for the U.S. Senate.

Castle has announced. Here is his website.

yea…great news. Mr. Castle with all his faults adds at least 100 votes to each and every state legislative race and I am looking forward to his term in the US Senate. Now to the task of finding a Republican to beat John Carney, the Democratic choice that was not good enough to be Governor…but seems the Dems think he is good enough to be a US Representative.

Let’s not foget the great job Carney did as Ruth Ann Minner’s number 2.

Ugh, it’s like Bob Dole running for president; sure, folks like you and you’ve put in your time, but just because it’s “your turn” doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

Thanks for the update Dave. It is big news. I won’t pretend to be excited about it, but anytime the Castle campaign has a press release that doesn’t bash the other Republican in the race it is welcome here.

Huh? When has a Castle campaign had a press release that bashes other Republican candidates, David? You comment as if it had been done before.

No, I don’t expect it, I don’t even expect him to acknowledge that he is the second candidate in the race. I am just establishing ground rules. It is his right as an American to run a primary. He certainly earned the respect of all Delawareans to run for anything after 42 years of public service and I will show him that respect. I do not expect to back him.

Dave, I am not sure how to take your post in #4. I don’t know when Castle has ever bashed Christine O’Donell. Also, Christine states that she has had very cordial relations and candid talks with Castle regarding her prior races. The Republican Party could have done better for CO but I know of no one who places that blame on Castle.

1.) Forget about O’Donnell; she’ll never win a statewide race.

2.) It might be smart for Beau Biden to forgo an expensive campaign for the Senate, a race he would stand a good chance of losing, and instead run for Castle’s House seat; then wait six years for Castle’s retirement.

3.)Schwarzkopf is vulnerable if the Republican candidate attaches him to Obama’s hip on issues like the ’stimulus,’ GM bailout, abortion, taxes, ACORN, etc. After all, he is a Democrat, and does support BO’s agenda. Good. The 14th is generally conservative; give Pete Rehoboth and concentrate, heavily, on Robinsonville Rd., Conley Chapel Rd., Camp Arrowhead, etc.

You won’t beat him focusing on local issues, so don’t try. Some flyers showing Pete with BO, Ayres, Wright, ACORN and so on would take him off his game. Make a candidate angry, and he starts making mistakes- especially on his favorite venue, WGMD radio.

Congressman Castle is a great guy. I respect his service. He runs honorable campaigns.

Tenn, Please read comment 6 again my friend. All I said in 4 is that I will post any press releases from the Castle campaign with the proviso that I will not post any that I perceive as bashing or negative to Ms. O’Donnell.

I do not anticipate nor do I believe that the Congressman will bash her. I am not as sure about some other independent allies such as the NRSC which the Congressman has no control over. I published the NRCC press release sent to me unedited. I consider the national committees allies of the campaign and have no idea what the consultants may do 10 months from now.

The point to including that proviso was not to imply that he is doing that or has in the past. It was to keep me from being boxed in if the campaign got heated.

You and I have seen a lot of campaigns take interesting turns when they get close. If the campaign is a blow out, that will never be an issue. If it gets close and he falls behind, someone somewhere will take it upon themselves to attack her. It may even (1 in a 1000) be his campaign. That is okay. I just did not want to be boxed in to an iron clad promise which would make me an agent of one campaign. I just hesitate giving blank checks. Ms. O’Donnell will soon have a guest post, I gave her no restrictions because I trust her but if it surprised me with rumors and meanspirited attacks, I wouldn’t publish it. Will that happen? No. Do I reserve my rights not to put myself in another’s hands? Yes. That is all I was doing. I am a person of my word so I am very careful what I say. I got burned once with a candidate in college who took a letter of endorsement I signed and changed it and I will not give a blank check anymore to anyone. I was answering questions for a week everywhere I went.

If multiple readers received the wrong message, that has to be the writer’s fault. Thank you and Smitty for giving me two opportunities to clarify it.

  10. on 07 Oct 2009 at 12:0210Tennessee Walker

I get it Dave, as I am sure Smitty does as well. From post 4 I got the impression that you were aware of some prior trashing of Christine by Mike Castle that I was unaware of.
