Cap and Tax moves on–Castle abandons Workers

Jun 26th, 2009 by David Anderson

Speaker Pelosi put it all on the line. She made it. 219 to 212. It is a vote reminiscent of the Clinton tax hike of 1993. The Democrats own this with 211 votes to 44 in favor.

The speaker and the President owe a big thank you to eight Republicans Mary Bono, Michael Castle, Mark Kirk, Leonard Lance, Frank LoBiondo, John McHugh, David Reichert, and Christopher Smith. May I say they made me sick. This bill is the worst bill in a generation when it comes to destroying what is left of manufacturing and burdening the middle class. If only 4 changed the bill would have needed more vulnerable democrats I have as of now withdrawn my mistaken support of a Castle senate run. I will see what comes.

I am proud of my party, especially the leadership, on this issue. They stood on principle. They stood up for the little guy. They defended business. They offered alternatives. They insisted on an open process. They kept the caucus together. I could not ask for more. I am as proud to be a Republican as I have been in years.

I have as of now withdrawn my mistaken support of a Castle senate run.

I’ll hold you to that, David.

  2. on 26 Jun 2009 at 21:112David Anderson

If he wants the support of people like myself, he will have to earn it. He no longer has the deference earned by the past. My statement is not one of hostility. It is just a matter of fact. The logic to supporting him is that he will be with the party when the chips are down on a filibuster. I no longer have faith in that. This was a free vote for him because the bill was so flawed and the contents unknown, yet he still didn’t go with us.

Embryonic stem cells, the vote against the surge, and now this are just too hard to swallow or at least keep down. In case anyone wonders, my views are my own and not meant to be that of the site. I guess I have to include that proviso now. We will gladly publish the views of the congressman and Ms. O’Donnell who will hopefully run for separate offices next year.

    “They offered alternatives.”

Really David? What sort of alternatives can a party offer which is in denial of global warming? Oh, I know, “clean” coal!!!

Mike Castle has demonstrated his utter unfitness for public office. But what can we expect from a careerist who has spent his life with his snout in the public trough?

He is an arrogant elitist who has a lot of moneyed friends. Yet can he buy a primary election? He may arrogantly expect that so-called ‘party leaders’ will discourage any challenge.

He needs to go. He needs a challenge in whatever race he chooses to run. Mike may jump when some big bank pulls his strings but when there is a matter of principle, Castle ignores the people.

There are some sycophants and favor seekers who will run to his defense and say that we ‘need to win’ and that principles really don’t count. Yet what is the purpose of winning?

There is a passage in the Gospel of St. Mark about the folly of gaining the whole world at the expense of one’s soul. There is a message in this that should not be ignored.

Why not a primary that gives the public a voice?

Could anyone not in his inner circle trust Mike Castle?

Party unity means listening to the voices of party members and just a few fat-cats and socialites. The party needs to get back to its grass roots and stand for more than perpetuating legacies.

it aint over until the fat lady sings (or in this case the president signs)

I belive house rules allow time far changing their vores, so work on the 8 R’s and D’s who are persuadable in the House.

Work on our senators, make them feel the heat.

Since there is almost no chance that the Senate bill will match the House bill, we get two more shots at this explative plan. We can rally opposition to the conference bill in both chambers.

    Never, never never give up.
    fight them in the air
    fight them on the beaches
fight them in the hedgerows and in the fields
fight them in the towns and villages.
    fight

At this point I am hoping that Mr. Castle runs for House again. I am not sure that we have the resources to pick up the senate seat, a new house seat, and the treasurer along with the state house. He could be a place holder for 2012. I don’t feel like I can trust him when he couldn’t even give us a free vote that both parties were making a stand on. It was so bad the Democrats lost 44 votes and had one not voting. If 45 Democrats bail on this, why would he support it? It obviously was not that great. In fact to get as many as they did, they had to buy them off. If they had the original bill, they would have lost 100 votes. If Castle is going to sell us out, could he at least get something for it?

I mean he just gave it away. That isn’t even smart politics.

  8. on 27 Jun 2009 at 11:088David Anderson

I agree annoni, the house vote was the easy chamber. As I said in the Cap and Tax comments, this bill has no chance in the senate. I can’t see them doing both health care and rewrite this bill at the same time. The President will have to choose.

  9. on 27 Jun 2009 at 12:339annoni

The President will ask for both. He will contiinue to claim “the house is on fire” – must pass NOE, don’t bother to read the bill.

Dingy Harry Reed will try to push both through.

  10. on 27 Jun 2009 at 12:3510annoni

    … must pass NOW

the typo’s I blame on a ‘new staffer’

see I can learn something from Perry’s side.

  11. on 27 Jun 2009 at 13:1111David Anderson

That’s funny (comment 10). Personally, I hope that they do. (9) They both may go down to defeat. That could force them to end up passing a health care bill that actually does some good and gets bipartisan support to save their reputations. I hope to see a lot more of your comments.

Nice to join your community guys. I am fed up with Mike Castle. I am going to actively campaign against him in 2010, whatever he runs for. I told him that this was the last straw and just finished writing him a very strongly-worded letter. We cannot have people like him representing our side. He sold his soul to Pelosi and junk science. This will be remembered. He is going suffer an astounding defeat because of his squishness and the fact that he is a RINO.

  13. on 27 Jun 2009 at 13:2713Joe Caps

On this topic, have you guys seen his statement he put out on the passing of more CAFE standards a few weeks ago:
    ——————————————-
“CASTLE RESPONDS TO OBAMA’S ANNOUNCEMENT ON CAFE STANDARDS

Washington – Delaware Congressman Mike Castle (R-DE) today applauded President Barack Obama’s announcement that fuel economy standards will be raised to 35.5 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2016. Rep. Castle has supported this standard of 35 mpg, adopted by Congress in 2007, and has urged the U.S. Transportation Secretary (June 2008 letter) and President Obama (March 2009 letter) to adopt the maximum feasible fuel economy standard.

Today’s announcement is overdue. I applaud the President’s announcement that the EPA and Transportation Department will be working together to boost federal fuel economy requirements and meet strict emission limits. A single national standard will also provide predictability and certainty for American auto companies at a time when they most need it. Reducing greenhouse gas emission and our dependence on oil are critical for the environment, public health, and national security.”
    —————————————-

Yeah, having thousands of more people die every year due to lighter, more dangerous cars in the name of junk science is such a great idea. (/sarcasm) What a dope.

  14. on 27 Jun 2009 at 13:3014David Anderson

Welcome Joe. Thanks for participating. I hope this will be long term participation. You will love our election coverage.

  15. on 27 Jun 2009 at 13:4015annoni

Joe, I think you will find campaigning FOR someone much more rewarding.

remember that in the past voting against Mike Castle ment voting for whatever protest candidate/nutjob the Dems put up to fill their dance card.
I can’t imagine the Dems putting up a canidate who was to the right of Mike, even though that stratagy got them the majority in the house and senate.

  16. on 27 Jun 2009 at 14:0016David Anderson

Well guys, he has guaranteed as of Friday that he will not have a clear shot at the nomination for senate. I am pretty sure Christine is in to stay. The ball is in his court. He has no one to blame but himself. He could have tried to work a deal and certainly not done this. I wonder if he will end up retiring, running for the House seat, or will he end his career putting the party through a heart and soul primary fight. I think that he should do the right thing and not force a primary, but that is his right like any other citizen.

  17. on 27 Jun 2009 at 14:0317Joe Caps

annoni, I completely understand what you are saying. I will support any candidate who I agree with on policy. If there is such a candidate in the primaries, I will support them, but if comes down to Castle and a Dem in the general, I will campaign against him. These squishes in congress need to fear us. If we roll over when they vote of stuff like this, they win, we lose. When they start to think twice before voting on stuff like this, that is when we start to gain ground. When they vote against stuff like this even though they are promised all kinds of goodies, because they fear the backlash so much, that is when we win.

When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.
    -Thomas Jefferson

Perhaps Mike Castle will get a opponent in whatever race he chooses to enter. Outside of certain ‘leaders’, his base of support may be rather thin. Encourage opposition rather than waste your vote on third party candidates.

Remember that he is a person who knows only politics. This is a rather poor resume for today’s world.
