It's getting thick on this thread!

Mr. Sweeney, I submitted my check to the Department of Elections as required. It is their responsibility to forward the check on to the parties. They have not done so as required and that will be addressed in the hearing scheduled for Monday. With respect to your campaign advice, I am calling voters personally rather than using "robo-calls" which I just hang up on when I get them. I am also going door-to-door as you recommended and I have gotten a very warm reception from everyone with the time to talk.

The party system may have been around for 150 years, but how's that working out for ya? It may be going well for the party bosses, but the voters out in the real world are hurting. You also suggest that I "attend meetings" after you kicked me out of yours at the behest of your county chair. I understand that your bylaws only allow registered Democrats, but that does not change that I am unwelcome. It just means I am INSTITUTIONALLY unwelcome. Whatever the Democratic machine has decided and whatever rules they have put in place, I think the members of your party should be offered a choice unconstrained by party registration. I have been affiliated with your party, and got absolutely nothing out of the experience except a vote in your primary for whatever candidates you had "pre-approved". Luckily, Delaware state law does not require your approval for me to participate in your primary. I will not affiliate with the Democratic or Republican parties again, especially following the heavy-handed, bare-knuckle, Chicago-style manner in which they have conducted themselves over the past week.

---------

Tennessee Walker, thank you for your supportive comments, but I must correct you that my understanding of the law is not based on the AG's opinions, which have demonstrated a tendency to flip-flop, but rather on a plain and simple reading of the law. The phrase you locked onto in your previous comments from Section 3106 of Title 15, "their respective parties" has already been interpreted by the Delaware Superior Court to mean the parties in which they have filed to participate in the primary process. There is nothing in state law requiring the approval of the party machines to enter the primary election. I am confident that Vice Chancellor Noble will concur with my understanding at the hearing scheduled on this matter for Monday, at 2:00pm in the Kent County Court of Chancery.

I am not crying about this, why does it always turn negative in this damn blog? The party system has been around for more than 100 years. In one fell swoop. Will thinks he can completely change American Politics. I spoke with him, and he said that the Libertarian message will not be heard as the third-minor party. Campaigning in a Republican or Democrat Primary and spreading the Libertarian message was a choice. There are ways to get the message out. If he has lots of money, direct mail. If he has no money, walk and knock on every door. Maybe Campaign 101 is not offered by the Libertarian party, but there is a lot of research on the Internet. His approach is going to turn a lot of people off and they will listen LESS to his message.

SUCCESS!! Republicans and Democrats united!

What about Colin and the rest of the Republicans and Democrats who filed on Tuesday? (Including Mike Castle)
How come they didn't pay in Feb.?

I've got a nice wheel of cheese for all the whine out there.

I agree with Mr. Sweeney on this. That being said, I can't blame Mr. McVay for the incompetent legal advice given to Kent Election officials by the dope assigned to that agency by the Department of Justice.

I cannot speak for the R's, and I can only speak for myself as a D. I am not afraid of the Libertarian party, nor am I afraid of additional names on the ballot. I encourage it. What bothers me is the backhanded way they went about it. If I want to get a message out to the voters in my district, I will pay for an advertisement, a direct mailer, hold a meeting, attend a meeting, pay for a robo-call, or walk to their house and knock on the door. I won't pull some media stunt to do it. Let them run a campaign the same way as everyone else.
Mr. McVay, I did not see your check, so the Democratic party did not take possession of it. You could have written it in February, and the message is still the same. If you want to run as a Democrat, change your affiliation.

"I just want to know…what the R’s and D’s afraid of? Let the Libertarians run primaries. Sounds to me like the same load of crap excuse they used when they tried to change the rules in the middle of the game earlier this year when they tried to raise the registration totals for ballot qualification.

I smell a lawsuit coming on this one too."

Evan, The R's and D's are not a bit afraid of the Libertarians. If you think for a minute that Brent or Will (Very nice guys in my book) have a prayer in any primary then I want you to send me a case of whatever you drink.

Republicans and Democrats, especially those in the General Assembly, are more concerned with certain members of the opposition major party (Republicans or Democrats) filing spoiler candidates on their own.
Your very question displays a level of ignorance that is palpable.

They are afraid of a blanket primary state with no vote to match. Previously if the Democrats or Republicans wanted to play in the others primary they had to find someone of that party willing to play along. That hasn't been easy. Sullivan found someone to challenge Charlie Oberle and make a big issue of his record before the general. It almost sank him.

If Democrats can file in a GOP primary that becomes easy.

Still New York has had a lot of success with candidates seeking multiple ballot lines. It is not really confusing because voters are voting only for their party. It works well.

Elaine Manlove, never too busy to come up with some other scheme to rig the vote and screw Delawareans.

I believe this is a quote from the smoke filled room where the Delaware political leadership got together with Elaine "You know Elaine...we were all in favor of letting them play...but they've become better than US!
Jason: The DEGOP leadershup recruited both Lee and Ting to hurt Mike. It was intentional.

That's the biggest load of crap in American history, plain and simple. In 2006 it wasn't "The DEGOP leadershup" (sic) that "hurt Mike." It was your flakewad princess of distortion, Christine O’Donnell, who sunk your friend Mike.

Jan Ting only got 43% of the vote in the 2006 primary.

It was Christine O'Donnell who pee'd in Mike's Wheaties by jumping into the race and claiming that she, The Flakewad Princess of Distortion, was TRULY the ONLY pro life, conservative running for the seat, and that Mike Protack WASN'T CONSERVATIVE OR PRO LIFE ENOUGH. Sound familiar? Like a toned down version of the campaign she's running now.

Your princess took 17% of the primary votes that would have gone to Mike, and all by herself, handed Jan Ting the primary victory. And make no mistake, the 17% that voted for O'Donnell would have gone right to Protack, not Ting.
