Bill and Pam Retire
Jan 7th, 2010 by David Anderson
Bill Oberle and Pam Thornburg are retiring. Both were expected. Rep. Oberle’s retirement is good news for Democrats because the district will become a likely pick up for them. The 29th is another story. I think that it will be a Republican hold. It will be a challenge. My sources told me that Trey Paradee (who almost won in the Democratic landslide of 08) always planned for two runs. The first was to build organization and name recognition and the second was to win. In Kent County, that tends to word. Pam Thornburg, Donna Stone, Nancy Wagner, W. G. Edmanson, Allen Angel, Mark Pugh, and Bill Daisey all lost before they won. The problem that Mr. Paradee will have is that 2010 will lean Republican especially in a rural district. If it becomes a 1994 style tidal wave, there is no way that he will win. The good news for Democrats is that they may have one of only three Democrats who has a chance in the race. The good news for Republicans is that they have wealth of people who could hold that district.
I have a couple of favorites. I think two of them could be very strong match ups for the mood of the day. I can’t give names right now, but a few initials might be coaxed from me in the comment section. If Republicans can hold the retirements to these two, they can take the house back. That should be the party’s number one priority.
The very chance to have a choice in elections is dependent upon it. If the Democrats control reapportionment, they can determine the size of Sussex council, the size of New Castle County Council, Levy court would have a free hand to reapportion even without home rule. They could consolidate school districts in their image. In other words they could work political mischief. Would they do it? You bet. In 2006, Joe Biden made it quite clear. According to Delaware Grapevine, Biden told the faithful at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner, “There are certain elections in the time of my life in the Democratic Party where one party doesn’t just win but regains control for a decade or more. The American people have closed the book on the Republican Party. . . . “We are on the verge of being the voice of this country for the next several decades.”
If that happens, your taxes will go through the roof and the quality of government will continue to decline. The radical social agenda will become normal. Increasing regulation will turn us into NJ and CA. The energy rationing bill will jack up your electric bills. There will be no check on the growth of government spending. We will return to the broken Delaware of the 1970′s. It is your choice, for now.

“If Republicans can hold the retirements to these two, they can take the house back. That should be the party’s number one priority.”
David, you are the man. If you are going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance!
Oberle was a Republican?
‘Oberle was a Republican?’
Pow!
What’s a Republican?
