AZ cracks down on illegal immigrants
Apr 24th, 2010 by David Anderson
Updated Read the law. Arizona has a new law which has been condemned as irresponsible by the White House, condemned unanimously by the Mexican senate, blasted as racial profiling, and supported by 70% of Arizonians polled. I have a modest proposal just pass a mirror law. We treat illegal immigrants by the same rules that the host country treats our citizens who immigrate.
It is interesting how the left responded with hyperbole and threats of statewide boycotts. Imagine if tea party people behaved that way what the leading headline would be.
The law does bear watching. It has the potential for abuse. The lawless action of the federal government which created the problem is of course already abusing the good citizens of Arizona by turning their state into a drug and crime super highway, burdening social services, and sucking the taxpayers dry. Governor Brewer is making every effort to ensure the law reflects the proper intent of the legislature.
The law will take effect in late July or early August, and Brewer ordered the state’s law enforcement licensing agency to develop a training course on how to implement it without violating civil rights.
“We must enforce the law evenly, and without regard to skin color, accent, or social status,” she said. “We must prove the alarmists and the cynics wrong.”
Brewer, who faces a tough election battle and growing anger in the state over illegal immigrants, said the law “protects every Arizona citizen.”
Anti-immigrant anger has swelled in the past month, after rancher Rob Krentz was found dead on his land north of Douglas, near the Mexico border. Authorities believe he was fatally shot by an illegal immigrant possibly connected to a drug smuggling cartel.
Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants, and its harsh, remote desert serves as the corridor for the majority of illegal immigrants and drugs moving north into the U.S. from Mexico.
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, a Democrat, said he closed his Arizona offices at noon Friday after his staff in Yuma and Tucson were flooded with calls, some from people threatening violent acts and shouting racial slurs. He called on businesses and groups looking for convention and meeting locations to boycott Arizona.
The bill’s Republican sponsor, state Rep. Russell Pearce of Mesa, said Obama and other critics of the bill were “against law enforcement, our citizens and the rule of law.”
Pearce said the legislation would remove “political handcuffs” from police and help drive illegal immigrants from the state.
“Illegal is illegal,” said Pearce, a driving force on the issue in Arizona. “We’ll have less crime. We’ll have lower taxes. We’ll have safer neighborhoods. We’ll have shorter lines in the emergency rooms. We’ll have smaller classrooms.”

‘Racial profiling?’ Well, who would you think would be an illegal alien- a red-headed, freckle-faced Irishman or a Mexican? If the U.S. wasn’t negligent in its duty (maintaining the borders), this law wouldn’t be necessary.
It’s funny how Hussein calls this law ‘irresponsible’- when 70% of Arizonians favor it; yet, Hussein calls healthcare ‘what the American people want,’ even though it has only a mid-40′s approval. What a pathetic, lying fraud.
I don’t think this is racial profiling. The illegal immigrants have been profiling us for years. Yes, they have been targeting us because we are gullible.
I say, a big loud applause from America to Arizona on this one. At least they have the courage to stand up and say, “we won’t take it anymore and we don’t care what you think, it’s our state.”
I just wish the Lilly-livered cowards that run Delaware had the courage to stand up like Arizona and Oklahoma did and fight for us. If we want change, we’ll just have to hand those cowards their pink slips in November. Live on 9-12 Patriots, people are starting to listen.
Since when is being “Mexican” at race? That’s news to me.
Arizona can pass race base laws, pass Birthers laws and the state can continue to boycott Martin Luther King Day, well the rest of the Country can boycott the state of Arizona and spank them where it hurts them the most their pocket book. Their phony patriotism is sickening, they are just racists going by another name. We all know you are just itching to put a sheet on their head? Let’s face it the Republicans had eight years to deal with health care, immigration, climate change and financial oversight and governance and they failed. It appears that the Republican Party is only good at starting wars (two in eight years, with fat War profiteering contracts to friends of Cheney/Bush) but not at winning wars as seen by the continuing line of body bags that keep coming home. The Republicans party will continue turned inward to their old fashion obstructionist party (and their Confederacy appreciation roots) because they continue to allow a small portions (but very loud portion) of their party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” to rule their party. I will admit that this fringe is very good at playing “Follow the Leader” by listening to their dullard leaders, Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush, Savage, Sarah Bailin, Orly Taitz, Victoria Jackson, Michele Bachmann and the rest of the Blowhards and acting as ill programmed robots (they have already acted against doctors that perform abortions). The Birthers and the Tea party crowd think they can scare, intimidate and force others to go along with them by comments like “This time we came unarmed”, let me tell you something not all ex-military join the fringe militia crazies who don’t pay taxes and run around with face paint in the parks playing commando, the majority are mature and understand that the world is more complicated and grey than the black and white that these simpleton make it out to be and that my friend is the point. The world is complicated and people like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt believed that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now it’s about dancing around the claim of government is the problem. The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. For a party that gave us Abraham Lincoln, it is tragic that the ranks are filled with too many empty suits and the crazy Birthers who have not learned that the way our courts work is that you get a competent lawyer, verifiable facts and present them to a judge, if the facts are real and not half baked internet lies, then, and only then, do you proceed to trial. The Birthers seem to be having a problem with their so called “facts”. Let’s face it no one will take the Birthers seriously until they win a case, but until then, you will continue to appear dumb, crazy or racist, or maybe all three. I heard that Orly Taitz now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC), she wants to re-establish a family values party, that’s like saying that the Catholic Church cares about the welling being of children in their care, too late for that.
Wow…Montana.
Drivel….all in one great big giant never-ending paragraph.
Sheer genius.
I am with you Pat. I was tempted to just add — clap, clap, clap.
It is so ridiculous. I bet he hasn’t even read an unbiased summary of the bill. I linked to it because it is only 17 pages. I am not a big fan of the bill, but to call it race based is not in touch with reality.
Republicans had 4 years of President, house, and senate not 8. I hate that they did waste many opportunities. however you act like they did nothing because we have different priorities. Education, expanding health care for seniors with prescription drugs, reforming the homeland security and intelligence apparatus, abolishing the marriage penalty and the pro-family child tax credit advocated for years by the left and right, and a sensible energy policy which helps domestic drilling and alternative sources. They also doubled basic research for health care.
Your priorities are climate change, open immigration, universal health care. That is not what most Americans want. It is certainly not what Republicans believe needs to be done as a group. Republicans should have done more, but don’t act as if they have done nothing.
As for immigration, didn’t Bush and McCain try your way? Just because it blew up in their faces as it will the ruling party, doesn’t mean they did nothing.
In case it is too much trouble to actually follow the link. Here is a summary of the bill that I gave DL.
If you get arrest for something else, you may need to prove that you are here legally. It would be nice if you had it one you, but it can be brought to you. If the sheriff comes out and finds you wandering around the border, it may help to have ID on you.
The law seems more aimed at criminal elements. It makes it a third degree felony to be in possession of drugs and weapons if you are here illegally. I don’t see the objection to eliminating criminal trafficking.
Montana, the drug-gangs wrecking havoc in Arizona are real, and they’re Mexican. That’s reality, not racism.
If the feds would do their job, and secure the border, this law would be unnecessary.
I think your ‘boycott’ of Arizona will be about as effective as the Wal-Mart boycotts of the recent past. In other words, ineffective.
70% of Arizonians support the legislation; 45% of Americans support Obama’s healthcare. I thought you Socialist-Democrats believed in democracy?
