Attorney General Denn Not Running for Reelection

UPDATED WITH an exclusive interview with GOP State Chairman Michael Harrington Sr.

Attorney General Matthew Denn announced his decision not to run for reelection to the office of Attorney General. He discussed his reasons, which can be read here. They are basically that he is burnt out from 5 statewide campaigns in 12 years and wants to spend more time with his family. He also seems to believe the administrative duties of the AG office keep him from focusing on the big issues. He is planning to find a private sector position which will allow him to contribute.

Updated below.

State Republican Chairman Michael Harrington Sr. responded to the announcement by congratulating AG General Denn on the decision to value his family. He is assembling a recruitment committee of 6 attorneys from the 3 counties. He hopes that the recommendation of the attorneys will give the party a highly respected and viable candidate. He already has spoken with 4 potential candidates before the announcement and expects more to come. Harrington said that he is advising potential candidates to avoid a primary so the party can unite early.

  1. It is always a good decision for an official to put his family first in lieu of politics. Mr. Denn is correct, in his assumption of extreme bureaucracy in Delaware, and most state governments as well as the federal government. “Drain the Swamp,” I say!
