At least she spoke with someone
Jul 21st, 2009 by David Anderson
Polly Adams-Mervine impressed someone. She won’t talk with voters, but she did find time to touch base with the DSEA. Do I sense a pattern? If you are a big donor or special interest group, she will give you more than a wave and a stump speech. If you are the regular Joe, you have to embarrass her into seeing you and then she skips out before you engage her with questions. Do you think this is representative of the kind of senator she would be?
Today a screening committee of representatives
from DSEA locals within the 19th Senate District (Sussex County) screened candidates for recommendation. The committee’s recommendation was then approved by the DSEA Board this evening.
The recommended candidate is Polly Adams Mervine. Ms Mervine is the daughter of the late Senator Thurman Adams. She is seeking to fill his vacant seat in the election scheduled for Monday, August 3rd.
Ms Mervine impressed the committee with her knowledge of education issues and her own experience as a former second grade teacher at North Laurel Elementary.

Let’s see the Special Election Record of the DSEA.
Republican School Board President Joanne Christian and education advocate, the DSEA endorses the Democrat.
Republican School Board Member and Mother of 2 teachers Christine Malek, the DSEA endoses the Democrat who had no children in public schools and had NO record of involvement within the district.
It looks as if Polly “I really can’t debate” Mervine has all the qualifications the DSEA really cares about. She has a D after her name in the Party affiliation box.
The endorsement of the DSEA (or the NEA) should be the kiss of death for any candidate.
The educational establishment is the enemy of knowledge-based education and is only interested in increasing the flow of tax money into gold-plated ratholes. The politicians who pander to their demands get their endorsements.
If we use the simplistic formulae of the NEA/DSEA crowd, low student/teacher ratios and more money spent per pupil should equate to educational quality. On that basis, the schools in the District of Columbia should be among the finest in the Nation. We know better.
In an atmosphere where courses on methodology and the latest gimmicks are touted as pathways to excellence, who questions such folly?
How many school board members are more than rubber stamps for the administrators?
Interestingly enough it didn’t really say that she met with them. It just implied it. She was a past member and a Democrat. I think it was a foregone conclusion.
What I found more newsworthy is the fact that she doesn’t like to answer questions from the citizens or the press. Yet she will rush away from 250 people most of whom are in her district to see a half a dozen donors who should support her no matter what. She didn’t give the press much in her announcement, but apparently gave the DSEA love. (I am not knocking the DSEA.) She doesn’t want to commit to the other forum by the nonpartisan LOWV, but hopes to schedule a photo op event at the fair.
It gives a picture of someone who gives the public a wave and a slogan, but gives the real attention to big donors and special interest groups. Is that the kind of senator that you want 19th?
The voters may not want that kind of Senator in the 19th; but, apparently, the money and party leadership does.
I am seeing all sorts of commercials for her (the reason why money is more important that actually debating issues for the people), so if people don’t bother to get informed and vote based on TV adds, she has a guaranteed win.
[...] DSEA endorces Polly Adams Mervine. Delaware Politics reacts sarcastically. [...]
