Are These People Crazy ?

Jul 15th, 2010 by Frank Knotts

This is a link to Sen. Tom Carper’s senate website for a press release announcing new legislation that requires the United States to reduce its oil imports to zero, by 2030.  http://carper.senate.gov/press/record.cfm?id=326431  The legislation is called The Oil Independence for a Stronger America Act.

Again I ask , are these people crazy?

Of course this law is full of all the usual green crap about becoming energy independent by raising CAFE standards to force people into electric cars. Mr. Carper and his fellow environmental nut cases think they can just say “OIL INDEPENDENCE “, and it will be so. You can’t legislate new technology.

He is also pushing the idea of transportation alternatives. This means, give up your cars and trucks,  and wait an hour by the side of the road for a bus to take you to another bus stop. Where you can wait another hour for the next bus. Oh and good luck getting the lumber home to build that playhouse for your kids in your smart car.

Come on people ! Think about it. What will it take to reduce our oil imports to zero, well right now we import two-thirds of our oil. Two thirds my friends, that’s 2/3, more than half, a helluva lot.

All this in twenty years. How? The technology doesn’t exist today. We can’t store the energy that is generated by solar and wind on an industrial scale at this time. Nuclear plants , if they were started today would take twenty to thirty year to get up and running due to the law suits that the wackos would bring. I will say that Sen. Carper has in the past shown signs of sanity when it comes to nuclear.

So how do you reduce the oil consumption of the U.S. by two-thirds? Well by regulation my fellow citizens. They will have to impose laws that restrict who and when you can drive. There will be restrictions on energy use of all kinds. Mandatory brown outs. Possibly limited A/C usage, if at all. Smart meters that will shut off your appliances at the whim of the government-run power companies.

Friends these people are crazy. They want to move us back to the dark ages to satisfy some deep-seated desire to commune with nature that they developed while smoking pot and dropping LSD in the sixties.

This has to be the most unrealistic goal that any of these nut cases have proposed so far. And they are making it a law!

And just so you don’t think I’ve given up. Do we really want to send Mike Castle to the Senate to set next to Tom Carper and give the appearance of bipartisanship, to crack pot, junk legislation like this?

This sort of dangerous legislation will not make us less vulnerable to foreign countries , it will make us weak.

Oh! By the way I almost forgot, no where in the press release announcing, ”The Oil Independence for a Stronger America Act”, is anything mentioned about increasing our own oil production.

Just when I thought you had the capability to make sense Frank, you turn a rational argument into your typical Anti Castle rant. Typical and sad. You are incapable of actually being factual and not turning every post into an anti Castle screed.

  2. on 15 Jul 2010 at 20:592Pat Fish

While an argument can be made that this is not the time or place for an anti-Castle rant (and I’ll never understand why TW so loves the guy), I will too join Frank in that Castle in the Senate sentiment to remind yon folks that in the House Castle IS only one of 400 plus while in the Senate he’d be one in one hundred. The damage he could do….sort of like another one of the Maine sisters.

But Frank, here’s the solution. Forget everything you wrote although every word, syllable, consonant and vowel is correct cause here’s the answer.

Just one day Frank, just one long insufferable 24 hour day, one eternity compacted in a sun then moon rise, on a very hot day, without air conditioning, and all of America shall rise as one mighty force, liberals and conservatives, Libertarians and Wiccans. The roar will be heard around the world. The welfare folks will rise with the rich.

Just let this day without air conditioning be part, in any form or fashion, of any grand GREEN effort and forget the whales, forget the turtles, the hell with the fish and the little mammals can all go to hell.

Cause America will not suffer without their computers, high definition TV’s, comfortable air-conditioned cars and all the necessary frou frou of life. Americans will not stand on street corners lugging stuff around awaiting buses.

There will be mighty rigs summoned to the Artic National Wildlife Refuge toot de sweet. Nuclear plants will begin being built in every state, two or three in the bigger states.

This GREEN crap is nice to talk about and the liberals with no brains sound so noble. Trust that they too will not tolerate a ninty eight degree day with no air conditioning.

Remember the gas lines of Carter?

Even Carper and other stupids know this.

It’s a delicate dance to keep the Arabs happy who will then contribute to the American campaign coffers as they keep their populace suffering under an oppressive religion that sons of camels can continue to be shieks and vacation in the Riviera.

Just let the American public suffer.

Even Carper, hell even Obamer, knows this.

Cause then it will be all over.

This is why Castle has lost almost 10 points to Coons since Jan. while O’Donnell has a 3 point lead over Coons…time to switch horses before post time!

The answer is yes, they are crazy. Taxing or rationing energy is insanity. We need free market based solutions. That is another reason to support Glen Urquhart.

  7. on 15 Jul 2010 at 23:017Michael P. Borgia

Castle is up eleven over Coons, O’Donnell is up two over Coons. So Evan wants the candidate with the two point lead?

The polls shows Castle’s numbers eroding because he’s under persistent attack from his right flank. But that’s not translating into increased strength for Coons. Once Castle is the nominee, those attacks will cease and his strength vs. Coons will return.

If you want Christine O’Donnell to be the nominee on principle, you’re entitled to that. But to base a vote for O’Donnell on this poll makes no sense. All I see in an O’Donnell vs. Coons race is two politicians no one in the general public likes very much.

That said, it is nice to see her with a lead over Coons, no matter what the circumstances. Her campaign needs this following the release of her dismal second quarter financial. Still, the fact that Rasmussen did not poll O’Donnell vs. Castle still indicates that they think that race is non competitive. Rasmussen polling O’Donnell’s vs. Coons is intended to test Coons’ strength against another Republican, not to demonstrate any real momentum for Christine O’Donnell. That will only be indicated when a reliable poll showing her leading Castle is issued.

Let’s see if she can make that happen. Her second quarter financial report, indicating her campaign is insolvent was not good news.

A proposal to end foreign imports of oil in and of itself is not insanity. But it must be accompanied by a solid plan to increase domestic production to replace what is lost. That means drill, baby drill. It means getting the oil out of Rocky Mountain shale. It means drilling ANWR. And it means doing it now.

It means replacing our entire fossil fueled electrical generating capacity with at least eighty percent nuclear power. We’re currently at 19.6%. It means creating the needed storage and reprocessing capability to deal with the waste.

Carper’s goal of ending foreign imports is laudable and something we must consider. But reducing the United States to a pre World War I economy to do it is insanity. Instead we must focus on doing it by replacing foreign oil with our own on a barrel for barrel basis and reducing oil consumption by employing safe, environmentally friendly nuclear power.

  9. on 16 Jul 2010 at 05:259quiet alice

This bill has nothing to do with Mike Castle. He’s not one of the 4 people proposing it, he has made absolutely no comment on the legislation.

You O’Donnell minions are getting more desperate by the minute.

  10. on 16 Jul 2010 at 05:2610Frank Knotts

Michael, thank you for your #8 comment, you are right on the money. I would add the fact that, the 19.6% of our electric generated by nuclear, is generated by some fairly old plants. Like any technology, newer plants would be more efficient and safer.
Let me add also that Mr. Carper’s plan allows us to keep buying oil from our North American neighbors. I know this means Canada and possibly Mexico. What this would do is, increase the price of oil we receive from these countries. Because like any product, if you limit by law where people can buy the product, it allows the seller to have a monopoly on that product.Think health care!
Now as for the relevance of bringing Mr. Castle into the conversation. Mr. Castle clearly has a history of being in favor of just this kind of insane use of government power to drive the country off of the green cliff. His has voted for every CAFE standard increase and he voted for Cap and Trade. No one can argue that he isn’t an environmentalist. My point is that if we elect Mike Castle to the Senate, he will vote lock step with the senior senator from Delaware and the Democrats on every constrictive regulation that is proposed. I think we would be better served by having at least one voice in the Senate with a conservative view point on an issue as important as imports.
And Pat, while what you say may be true, I would rather not have riots in the streets. I would rather remove the Tom Carpers and Mike Castles from office.

  11. on 16 Jul 2010 at 05:3611quiet alice

Frank your desperation to get O’Donnell elected is getting clinical.

  12. on 16 Jul 2010 at 05:4712Frank Knotts

And alice your denial of who Mike Castle is, is pathological. If you can’t realize that this is an election year for Mr. Castle and that he is under the lens, then get a new hobby. The point being made is that he “would” support this bill and any like it if he were to be elected to the Senate. I never said he was one of the Four.

  13. on 16 Jul 2010 at 10:4013Michael P. Borgia

Frank, to further that discussion on older plants, another factor that limits their usefulness is that nuclear waste is at present stored on site at most facilities. The pools where the spent fuel rods are kept were only designed to hold enough waste for the design life of the reactor. So even if the reactors are safe to operate for many more years, there’s no room to put the waste, especially now that Obama has shut down Yucca Mountain.

  14. on 16 Jul 2010 at 11:2014David Anderson

Yucca Mountain is ready except for the fact that Harry Reid spent too many years demoguaging it. To open it before November would seal his fate. He would look powerless. The only downside to it is transporting it to the site. That would be the weak link. Procedures and equipment would have to be developed to withstand accidents and attacks without spilling any.

Reprocessing is the real answer. Every state with a plant should have a reprocessing facility near it.

Is it ‘crazy’ to want to destroy the Unied States?

Not if you’re a dedicated Socialist.

Remember, China, Russia, India and others will not hamstring their economic progress by imposing draconian C02 regulations.

Again, the hierarchy of the Socialist-Democrats, the puppetmasters, if you will, intend to get filthy rich on ‘green’ energy while simultaneously killing the existing, carbon-based energy sector.

    “Wear that Nose-Ring proudly, Socialist-Democrat cattle-lemmings!”
