Applauding CBS
Jan 26th, 2010 by David Anderson
CBS is airing a commercial celebrating life and family during the Superbowl because they were paid two and half million dollars (just like any other ad). It features Heisman Trophy recipient Tim Tebow and his mother. She was advised to get an abortion but chose life and celebrates that decision today.
Somehow, that is controversial among the hard left who haven’t even seen the commercial. They are mad because Focus on the Family has something to do with it. The content is irrelevant. It has to be condemned sight unseen. They call it political (as if that delegitimize the right to proclaim the message) and say that the quarterback should not take a stand because they don’t agree with him. I guess they really aren’t pro-choice are they?

Actually, liberal political ads have been rejected in the past. It’s blatant favoritism. Get your facts straight.
It is not a political ad. It was designed not to be so. It is a celebration and promotion of an organization’s work and a family’s life story. As I said, it is controversial in Leftist circles because of the people behind it not its content. That is the definition of intolerance.

How is bringing up one side of a controversial, often political topic NOT political?
The fact that you are focusing on it in a purely political blog might just prove my point.
I am responding to the the political reaction, my friend. I applaud CBS for not violating its own guidelines and being run by the most extreme voices in society.
If you believe in pro-choice, how is celebrating the life choice controversial? It is not advocating policy. It does not endorse candidates. It is no more political than saying drink in a responsible fashion or don’t take drugs which have been on past superbowls. If someone wants to find a way to stay within CBS’s guidelines and celebrate killing babies, I wouldn’t object to CBS airing it. In fact when NARRAL ran ads during primetime, did you ever see me say the network shouldn’t air them? I had problems with the ads and the organization, but never had problems with speech.
There really is no other side if you believe the pro-choice rhetoric. We want abortions to be rare. The controversial issue is supposed to be do you accomplish that through law and culture or just culture. It is like saying that the liquor companies really want us all sloushed. We all know the truth, but there is at least a facade of responsibility. The extreme abortion crowd has just ripped down that facade. Let them raise millions to celebrate ripping babies limb from limb if they want.
Now you see why Sara Palin is so hated by the left. Her and her daughters are traitors to the Left who have disdain for them because they did not kill their unborn babies.
One was a teenage Mom and the other a middle aged Mom with a special needs baby.
How dare they not comply with the feminist leftist code?

I agree Mike. This is a controversy mainly in the knee jerk community. The ad has not even been seen and the script seems non controversial. It is the attitude behind the protest that most concerns me. It is one of oppression and censorship.
