A snippet from the Salt Lake Tribune article, linked above:
Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.’s appearance at a Michigan county Republican Party event was scrapped this week after the county chairwoman said that hosting the moderate Utah governor would mean abandoning the party’s conservative principles.
Kent County Republican Party Chairwoman Joanne Voorhees abruptly canceled the party fundraiser scheduled for Saturday.
“The voters want and expect us to stand on principle and return to our roots. Unfortunately, by holding an event with Governor Huntsman, we would be doing the exact opposite,” Voorhees wrote in an e-mail quoted in The Grand Rapids Press .
A Republican Governor with AN 84% APPROVAL RATING…did you get that, I said AN 84% APPROVAL RATING!!!
Yet, he’s a pariah in the eyes of the standard bearers.
This picture (shamelessly copied from John Cole’s Balloon Juice) really is becoming appropriate…

Moderates? BWAA-HAAA-HO-HO-HOOOOO
Remember moderates, we are not permitted to speak until spoken to, but only with explicit instructions on what to say and the word “start.”

Please forgive me, conservative overlords (i.e.: Rush Limbaugh), for I have spoken my opinion without first seeking your approval.
I am no fan of Huntsman and would not go to his event, but to insist that a sitting governor who is willing to leave his state to help yours be canceled fir unspecified reasons is at best puzzling and at worst self destructive.
We are one party. We have to be able to work together and not go crazy over any one issue. This is not like Specter who was consistently sticking his finger in the eye of the party on almost every issue at every public opportunity.
If Huntsman is willing to raise me money, I shouldn’t take it because I disagree with him on an issue. I don’t follow but maybe it is a reasonable stand. The idea that I should publicly insult him for accepting an invitation and urge him blacklisted because he was willing to help me after my associates asked him is wildly goofy and worse impolite and insulting to a friend. I thought conservatism stood for a courteous culture. I have to go with you on this one Smitty.
Thanks for the nod, David, but I have to tell you, from my view, this is the well-established trend. I’m certain you and I see it differently, but as a self-proclaimed Centrist/Moderate/whatever, I am very much persona non grata in the big picture.
Not with me.
Like I said at DL Smitty–there’s more we he came from!
Feel free to consider yourself an exception, David, but that’s not representative of what I see and feel and experience with the big picture.

It has nothing to do with being scared. Too bad you can’t see that.
it was a joke. Way to follow the spirit of the post, too.
Whats the story on Huntsman?
in what areas does he “moderate”
Civil Unions.
is Gay marriage/Civil Unions currently a hot topic in Michigan State Politics?
It’s all about “purity” politics.

If I remember correctly, the people in Michigan passed a Constitutional Amendment banning them.
