Another Democrat Example of Incompetence
Aug 5th, 2009 by Tennessee Walker
For those of you who actually thought that you could depend on the Democrat run Department of Elections to give you accurate and timely results of the Special Elections on Monday. Think again.
This website gave the public its first taste of the results. Thank You David Anderson!!!!
State Elections Commissioner Elaine Manlove says that the problem was technical. That is fair enough, but Elaine How about a backup plan???? You admit you had the results early on but you made the public, workers, and candidates wait forever for results. The Booth campaign victory celebration was already over and the Democrat run Department of Elections still did not produce any results. This is unacceptable. All of the candidates, Wendy, Polly, Matt, and Joe worked hard and deserved to know the result in a timely manner. The Sussex Department of Elections run by Polly Adams Mervine ally, Ken McDowell, owes every candidate and volunteer an apology. I don’t want to hear that there was a technical problem. Life is full of technical problems and competent administrators plan for some type of failure and develop back up systems accordingly.
The results of this election came from private sources. The Department of Elections showed a total disregard to the public, and the dedicated people who actually worked in this special election.
As a point of comparison, there was a special election in this very same area in the mid 1980′s. Another Bridgeville legend, Brad Barnes, had passed away unexpectedly (His portrait hangs In Legislative Hall. He was Speaker of the House at the time of his passing) Somehow the Republican run Department of Elections of the Mid 1980′s got the results out within 45 minutes of the closing of the polls. The results were timely and accurate. Maybe Kenny just did not want to admit the truth that his political ally got a royal butt kicking but that is not an acceptable excuse for leaving the public, the candidates, and the volunteers in the dark.
The Liberal News Journal blog has the story on this.

It took them how long to come up with the PDF solution? If you want another example, read the press releases.
The press releases are more damning than my post.
I am ready to go off on it, but I am working on 2 other things. I think Elbert is working on this anyway. I don’t think this can get too much attention or discussion. What happen to the 3 to 6 months? Now they won’t even release Meconi’s contract. What is this $73K part time job? Excerpts below. read the entire release on the first draft page folks.
State Rep. Lavelle Files FOIA Request Regarding Hiring of
Discredited Former DHSS Secretary
Initially, Meconi’s hiring was to have been for a limited three-month period, but according to reports published today, Meconi is still on the state payroll with no firm expiration date on his job as a consultant. In today’s issue of the News Journal, Markell spokesman Joe Rogalsky is quoted as saying: “We’re constantly re-evaluating the situation. We don’t have a firm deadline.”
Meconi is being paid $6,093.75 monthly for his consulting services in addition to $7,633.56 he is receiving each month from his state pension. Combined, Meconi is reaping nearly $165,000 in state money annually – topping the salary he made last year as DHSS secretary by more than $20,000.
in March, the governor’s spokesman said it was on ‘a part-time, temporary basis’ that would last three months. We’re well past that and now they’re saying there’s no ‘firm deadline.’”

For the record, I really like Vince Meconi. We have shared some really candid observations and I have found him to be knowledgeable and forthwright.
All of that being said he is a Tom Carper guy who somehow managed to stay on in high paying positions in the Minner administation. I don’t know Vince well enough to know what dirty pictures he has of Ruth Ann or Jack Markell where he continues to get sweetheart deals. He certainly was never qualified to run facilities management and his tenure at Health and Human Services is self evident.
DHHS was out of his expertise. It didn’t make him a bad guy; it made him in the wrong position. There were qualified people available and they were passed over. I blame the previous administration.
I don’t question his accepting the deal. Who wouldn’t take 73K for a part time job if offered? I am questioning the people who offered it. He is getting more than the Lt. Gov isn’t he?
The Dems were befuddled by the extremely low dead vote.
