And the Next Governor of Delaware Will be? The News Journal May Decide!

Guest Post by: Dr. Jahi Issa I couldn’t help being startled at the lack of journalistic integrity displayed by Jonathan Starkey who writes for the News Journal. His “Beau Biden alters usual political path” that appeared at 10:39 P.M. on April 19, 2014 indicates the obvious appearance, the editors at the News Journal are in the pocket of certain Democrats in the state and are trying their best curb the damage that has been done to Attorney General Beau Biden. On April 18, 2014 the News Journal conducted a poll asking its readers if they would vote for Beau Biden during the 2016 Governor’s race. Of the more than 4,400 readers who participated in the poll, 84% voted against the Attorney General, while less than 10% voted in favor of him. The poll was so damaging that it was quickly removed and archived. It was obvious from the poll that Beau’s popularity was quickly diminishing. The April 19, 2014 article mentioned nothing about the poll the previous day and rather relied on a 2013 University of Delaware poll stating: In September, a University of Delaware poll identified him as the state’s most popular, and recognizable, politician. Of the 902 adults who participated, 64.2 percent viewed Biden favorably, versus just 16.9 percent who had unfavorable views and 7.1 percent who had never heard of the attorney general. The reasoning behind Jonathan Starkey’s decision to rely on a poll that was taken eight months ago and not mentioned in the more recent News Journal poll is mind boggling. Did the editors of the News Journal tell him to ignore the April 18, 2014 poll? Whatever the reason, it is clear that the Democrats have been wounded by Beau Biden’s drop in popularity and abrupt decision to pull out of the AG’s race. It is also clear that the News Journal is trying their best to curtail the damage and make Beau appealing in 2016.

  1. If Beau Biden wants to be governor, he’ll be governor. This is Delaware, and his name is Biden. Don’t expect nose-ring cattle to wander off the path.

  2. Rick
You’re probably right but letting him have anything he wants without stiff competition is a travesty. Besides, Beau has some health problems that are seemingly serious and that should weigh in heavily with the voting public. I have a sneaking suspicion that only the family and doctors know the real extent of those health problems.
Many things can happen in a long campaign.

  3. The guy was admitted into a cancer center in Texas. I wouldn’t think that you would go to a place like that unless you actually had cancer, but I could be wrong.

My guess is that he’s probably skipping the AG race to avoid the stress, and to see how his health pans out.

If it turns out that his health problems are resolved, then he will run for governor in 2016.

  4. One theory is that the Republican Party can put up a candidate, and then all the Republicans will attack their own candidate. That’s one approach.

  5. Really. The Democrats hardly have to get out of bed, when the Republicans are doing their work for them, attacking their own nominee.

Now, this has nothing to do with an honest and FAIR decision among the voters as to who they want to be their nominee. The voters should decide that, not the party bosses and “Lords of the Backroom.”

And the reason that doesn’t work is because the primary should be in March, not in September.

But once the Republican voters decide who they want as their nominee, the DEGOP needs to learn how to attack the Democrats, not other Republicans.

It is a lot easier to shoot at the person standing next to you, whom you can easily hit, then to shoot across the battlefield at the enemy.

“One theory is that the Republican Party can put up a candidate, and then all the Republicans will attack their own candidate. That’s one approach.”

They could give lessons at attacking their own candidates but they can’t get a statewide candidate elected. They are good at holding winning candidates as political prisoners if they don’t like them also. Hmmmm

  7. Dr. Issa: The “poll” you refer to is not what we would call a “scientific” poll, because it’s not a random survey. (Yes, Jon, I know that’s not real “science,” which is why I put it in quotes).

On a larger note, Mr. Starkey’s name appears on the article, but a newspaper does not allow its writers carte blanche to write slanted articles. You might be right in stating that the newspaper is in the bag for the Bidens, but it is no indication that Mr. Starkey has anything to do with it. It’s above his pay grade.

  8. @ Nobody
I am sure that had the News Journal poll reflected 84% for AG Biden, the NJ would have used it!!

  9. Sorry. I didn’t work at the Lotto for 25 years. I did work at the News Journal that long, so I know quite a bit about how they operate there.

  10. The poll was so damaging that it was quickly removed and archived.
This is total BS. The News Journal does a daily poll. The Biden Poll was treated no differently than any other daily poll, you can find it when you hit “more polls” under today’s poll, right where it belongs, between the 4/17 and the 4/19 poll:

Also total BS, having to read inaccurate drivel from a left wing radical, third party hack on a blog that is supposed to be dedicated to center-right wing thinking.

  11. ROFL… because the “daily poll” is changed every day, our resident nutbars think it was “hidden”. Priceless.

Those things are posted just to drive web traffic… “Hey, Ethel, go to the website and vote in their poll!”

A sane person might think the “daily poll” is different every day but, well, there you are.

“In left-right politics, left-wing politics are political positions or activities that accept or support social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. It typically involves a concern for those in society who are perceived as disadvantaged relative to others and an assumption that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.”

Thank you for the compliment! I think that it was wrong for people like Richards to get away with rapping his own children! What about you? You see am a switch hitter! Have three–really four traditions. You thought you knew only one!

  13. In left-right politics, the difference is that liberals pretend to care, while actually harming people, and conservatives insist upon policies THAT ACTUALLY WORK instead of just creating a magician’s illusion.

Liberals do not care about “those in society who are perceived as disadvantaged relative to others”

They care only about FOOLING gullible voters by claiming to care, while in fact liberal policies actually HARM “those in society who are perceived as disadvantaged relative to others.”

So under liberal policies, the poor remain poor, the disadvantaged remain disadvantaged, the under-educated remain under-educated, etc.

Under the liberal war on the poor, 50 years later the country has made no progress.

Conservatives care about RESULTS, which includes not pursuing pie-in-the-sky, unattainable nonsense.

Furthermore, liberals view a lack of personal achievement as society’s problem.

Conservatives realize that there is no cure or solution for personal circumstances without individuals taking personal responsibility for their lives.

It is impossible to improve the circumstances of those who do not take responsibility for their own situation.

  14. The press is so powerful in its image-making role, it can make the criminal look like he’s a the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. This is the press, an irresponsible press. It will make the criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.
If you aren’t careful, because I’ve seen some of you caught in that bag, you run away hating yourself and loving the man — while you’re catching hell from the man. You let the man maneuver you into thinking that it’s wrong to fight him when he’s fighting you. He’s fighting you in the morning, fighting you in the noon, fighting you at night and fighting you all in between, and you still think it’s wrong to fight him back. Why? The press. The newspapers make you look wrong.

  15. The De GOP will be completely dead and buried after 2014, Beau Biden could run over a kid on a tricycle while on crack and still get elected.

Personally, I hope his health improves but I do not believe in dynastic government.

He’s a dog, not a rap god. And because he licks the hands that feed him, more black men will be incorporated in Corrections Corporation of America or sent off to fight for Team America with their dog tags on. Dog.

Do you enjoy your slavery? Even if you don’t understand the occult nature of the owners of your culture one would think that even the most dimwitted slave would catch on to the way that they’re constantly being mocked and degraded eventually, instead of joining in and celebrating it.

Or seeking to be incorporated in it, like Jay Z: Jay-Z: Illuminati

Oh, he has some ponzi thrown his way and his little dogs worship him like a rap god… good for him? How successful all the dogs owned by the Occult Inc.* are, never mind those at the back of the pack that will never get to be the “star”… mainly because they wind up dead or incorporated in Corrections Corp.

  17. The press is so powerful in its image-making role, it can make the criminal look like he’s a the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal.

    Indeed.
