An Interview with Kevin Wade, Candidate for Congress
Nov 24th, 2009 by David Anderson
I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Wade for nearly an hour. We discussed a variety of issues this is a summary of that conversation condensed for space.
Life Lessons learned
I have a very simple approach to life; give your word and keep it. In the world of business, you have 5 year plans and power point presentations, but at the end of the day the customer wants to know if you will keep your word.
My business involves identifying and solving problems. I help people fixing things. I can’t fix the number of things that Washington is setting wrong as an individual. The only way to fix this problem is to go to my fellow citizens and campaign to go to Washington and help fix this problem of out of control debt. Out of control spending is the biggest problem. I think most people understand that the hard rain is going to fall.
I think the time to contain government spending was 15 years ago. The time to control spending by population growth and inflation is past. We need to close down departments.
Washington has discretionary and non discretionary spending, but large sums of the non-discretionary spending as termed by bureaucrats is absorbed in overhead and mismanagement. As an example there was a pizza shop which received millions for infusionary treatment. Yet that was not caught by the bureaucrats immediately. We need to root out the fraud and waste rampant in government. We need to spend every dollar like it is our last. Overspending and borrowing has compromised the sovereignty of our country.
I do not plan to be a career politician. I want to do my job and come back to my family and run my business.
Tax Policy
Extend the Bush tax cuts. We can’t have the prosperity inspired by good policies as long as we are overshadowing our economy with burdensome debt. Prosperity doesn’t come Washington, but the hard work of the American people.
Energy Policy
We must find American energy from all sources. The key is that we must find American energy. We buy 12 million barrels a day in foreign oil. In an economy with 12 percent unemployed (U-4), it is unconscionable. That is well over $600 million a day at $50 a barrel ($70 now). There are large areas on and off shore where American energy companies aren’t allowed to even look. Let’s produce our own energy and bring some of that $600m to produce jobs here. We need to take care of the environment and ensure that any one who produces this energy does it right or wishes they hadn’t done it at all.
Cap and trade
It is a tax that is insidious. It touches and raises the cost of every aspect of American life from making a cup of morning coffee to driving to work. There are simpler ways to remove carbon from the atmosphere but these do not allow social engineering and control by liberals. One is to plant trees. They are mostly carbon and water. Trees absorb tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grows.
We need more Johnny Appleseed’s and fewer energy czars.
Health Care
The present bill in front of the senate has little to do with health and even less to do with care. Washing ton can not even agree on the number of people lacking coverage.
The immediate problem is the cost of providing something not well defined, for a number of people that can’t be quantified, while asking the doctors and nurses to cooperate in lowering the standard of care given to each American. We have the best health care system in the world, but it is unevenly applied. We should focus on the best doctors in an operating room not sharp attorneys. We should open the market up to all 50 states.
We have to contain punitive damages. We have to expect our health care professionals to assume responsibility for maintaining the good order and quality of the profession. Americans need to be patients for good doctors not patients for bad doctors.
Dignity of Life
No human life is inconvenient life is to be honored and celebrated. To the last weary heart beat of a life time journey completed or the first heart beats in the womb of a journey soon to begin.
Favors Hyde and Stupack. One of the most offensive things this president did was authorize the use of tax money for abortions outside this country. When you use all the people’s money, you must take into account the conscience. I do understand that people of good heart have different views on the abortion issue. I believe that people in public office should not only reflect the views of the people they serve, but lend a hand in shaping those views.
Right to bear arms
The first ten amendments are know as the bill of rights. The wise leaders who framed our government wisely framed the limits of the reach of government power into lives of our citizens. Each of those ten amendments are cherished including the second amendments. There are many reasons it has been cherished throughout the years and none of those reasons has changed.
DOMA
The defense of marriage act expressed the will of the people then and does now. Marriage has a unique status around the world and has forever. As a conservative person, I reject the role the government dictating the details of my life. As a conservative person, I see no merit in government dictating the details of another person’s life. As for marriage, it holds a unique position. Marriage has for all time expressed the hopes and dreams of people around the world from remote villages to big cities because it embodies the hope of new life and love of family which is the building block of all successful societies.
Conclusion
An American awakening is occurring. There is a new understanding between the rulers and the ruled which will lead to better future. That better future will give us a brighter outlook on achieving freedom and prosperity for all.

People are reading this so let me kick off the comments. I found Kevin to be a thoughtful person. He may be the right mix. Conservative enough to do the right thing and unite the party, but not enough to scare the disenfranchised Obama moderates.
