A Word to Michael Steele’s Critics…HA
Mar 22nd, 2009 by David Anderson
Republicans (RNC) are outraising the Democrats (DNC) in spite of being out of power. The RNC raised nearly 2 million more than the Democrats. The Democrats should close the gap because they have a sitting President. The RNC has been benefiting from a full time chairman who works more than one day a week. The DNC may have to wait until their chairman loses his job to have the same benefit. The first test of the season was won by Michael Steele.
Chairman Steele is going to get a lot of criticism because he cleared the decks of the people who did not get us results at headquarters. They have mounted a movement to get rid of him. They claim that he is on TV too much and not raising enough money. The truth is that he is restaffing and by the accounts that I heard has done a thoughtful job. He took his time but now has key people in place. He has given the GOP a consistent message. The generic poll numbers are even with the Democrats (last week’s tracking was 2 points up.) He has made a couple of miscues, and the media hammered him. The funny part is that they were so easily corrected that the obvious political piling on didn’t hurt anyone, but the ones who participated in the dog pile. He was masterful in using the miscues to strengthen the base.
Even better Steele is cool. He is a fresh new face who wants to rebuild the party nationally. I think his second test will be March 31st in the 20th district of NY.
