A personal endorsement–Castle for Senate–HELL NO

Sep 10th, 2010 by David Anderson

My endorsement means nothing compared to Mama Grizzly. Nonetheless, I will give one of my principle reasons for voting in favor of Christine O’Donnell and against Mike Castle. I fully respect conservatives and moderates who choose Mr. Castle. He is a decent man who has built up 44 years of good will while holding office. If he wins the primary, he will have my support in the general election because once again I will have no real choice and will make a strategic decision. I hope you will respect my just as sincere reasons for not supporting him this primary election.

The fact is that he is the number one reason that I am voting for O’Donnell. He lost my vote about 4 years ago when he decided to make his signature issue taking my tax money to subject embryos to experimentation and destroy them. He then wants to use them in some unproven stem cell farm system despite the abundance of evidence that the science shows us a better way. Science and ethics agree that the best method is using non-embryonic stem cells. All of the major advances and every existing cure and treatment comes from either core blood or adult stem cells. Not only is Mr. Castle’s stubborn refusal to fund embryonic stem cells an ideological war on the unborn, it is a distortion of resources. Private money stopped flowing to embryonic stem cells because they proved not to work with today’s technology. By Mike Castle diverting resources from efforts that are providing cures today for the hope of cures tomorrow, he is literally costing the lives of people he serves.

When Mike Castle refused to respond to the evidence that I and others sent him on this subject from scientific journals and other sources, I said that if I get a chance to vote for a conservative instead of him, I will.

I keep my word.

MIKE this one is for the babies. You spit on their graves. I hope this is your political swan song. Thanks for your service. Enjoy your pensions.

No, my objection is not just the issue of life. He votes according to the National Journal with liberals half of the time, but maybe I could keep tolerating him just to have an easy shot at the senate seat. He is wrong on gun rights, environmental policy, energy policy, the surge in Iraq, and social issues, but the argument is that he wins and is another vote for tax cuts and organization. I get that. The truth is that my moral objection is not just to his 18 years of voting against the issues that are nearest to my heart, it is that he took an activist role. He is a leader in the cause of using tax money in a way I believe is morally reprehensible. It will cost the lives of the born and the unborn. That is a bridge I can not cross. I will not look myself in the mirror and say that because I wanted the easy route, I gave up on my fundamental beliefs.

Castle for senate–the answer is not just no–It is HELL NO.

David, I proudly stand along side with you on this. Keep up the fight.

Dave, while I respect your position and your beliefs with respect to some of Castle’s positions, and I also respect your commitment to support Castle should he win (if only that were shared by some of the other frequent posters here), needless to say, I think you and others are putting Republican control of the Senate at risk.

For better or worse, Christine O’Donnell CANNOT WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION. Can she win the primary? She has certainly has a chance, but the primary is a small subset of Republican voters, who are but a small (and the most conservative) subset of the general election. As the Wall Street Journal (which is no friend to moderates) just observed the other day, Castle is the strategic and best choice under the circumstances.

At the end of the day, while principles are important in life and politics, so is compromise and practicality. Half a loaf is better than none, and Rome wasn’t built in a day. If Coons is elected, we’ve lost this Senate seat for 24 years or more. If Castle is elected, you can start grooming a more conservative replacement. Take the long view; short term views lead to ruin.

  3. on 10 Sep 2010 at 10:433David Anderson

I get one vote. It is the currency of my convictions.

I care less about party than I do my responsibility of conscience. I am not saying that you have to draw the line in the same place, but I am sharing with you where I have to draw it.

When it comes to taking tax money to destroy innocent human life, I will never compromise. I have a choice and my conscience says I have to make the best moral choice available not the best political choice. On this ground, I make my stand.

    Nostradamus has spoken…

  5. on 10 Sep 2010 at 11:045David Anderson

By the way, I am not thinking short term. I am thinking long term. It is better for the nation and the party that a person who is a leader of the anti-life so called mainstreet republican faction lose than allow them to continue to work to split apart the Republican coalition.

It is in the long term to protect the children that we can start getting adopted out than destroy them.

It is in the long term interests of the world not to divert resources from techniques that is right now providing cures and on the verge of 80 more.

It is in the long term interests of posterity to have a Pro-life Republican majority which respects the role of the family. Mike Castle could not even bring himself to vote for Parental notice across state lines. He could not bring himself to vote against cloning. He is out of the mainstream in my book.

    Coons would be worse.

O’Donnell would be better. She is an angel in comparison. I would rather have a person who made a few mistakes with their checkbook than someone who is constantly misusing mine to accomplish things I believe are anathema.

With respect to all who have so passionately supported her, I just believe that the election of Christine O’Donnell would have devastating and far reaching consequences for this party.

If the FEC does not take her down, it is a certainty that the Senate Ethics Committee would. Imagine the stain on the party both locally and nationally if she is the one vote making up a Republican majority and she was forced to resign from office, or was expelled from the Senate because of her campaign finances. Then Beau Biden becomes our senator for life…and Dick Durbin or Charles Schumer becomes majority leader.

Are we in Delaware really ready to take responsiblity for that?

  7. on 10 Sep 2010 at 11:407David Anderson

I don’t buy the ethics committee stuff.

I do understand that she is not as strong of a candidate in fall. She can win, but Mike will. I wrestled with that. I do not want Chucky the gun grabber or Dick blast our troops leading the senate. I do not knock anyone who comes to the “safe” choice. It is just after 18 years of churning my stomach in the House and fighting him when he was governor to get parental notice, I had enough. She is a risk, but he is a loss already in my view. He is not my friend issue wise.

I am willing to take a risk. In my view, not doing so is accepting defeat because Mr. Castle is not with me on the issues. The responsibility of earning my vote is the candidate’s. It is not mine to find excuses to give it to him.
The last several elections gave me only one choice, Castle. I could not see him losing to a person to the left at such a crucial time. My reward was that he voted even more to the left. He has been a little better this year under pressure. The problem is that once he is elected, he would be another Kaufman. Everyone knows that it is his last term. He wouldn’t have to care what we think anymore. Maybe his inner conservative would come out. Maybe his inner liberal would be unfeathered. Maybe he would be exactly like he is.

Castle unleashed is a risk that I am not anxious to take.

If the majority of Republicans feel your way Tuesday, I accept their verdict. If they see it my way, I rejoice. Either way, we have work to do. We have to reunite this party and move forward.

How can anyone endorse a proven liar and call themself a “Christian”? O’Donnell is a liar-what does supporting a known liar make you?

Jesus didn’t care enough about politics to make endorsing a liar a virtue. This is not what Jesus would do.

See you and O’Donnell in Hell, David.

  9. on 10 Sep 2010 at 12:239alpha

So what David is saying is, he is a single-issue voter.

I can understand that, because I am a single issue voter too. My issue is the economy. That’s why I vote Democratic.

Periods of Republican control are times of lower employment and bleeding of middle-class assets, setting back entire generations of families from their American Dream. Those are the facts. You can counter with an opinion if you like.

But we are each entitled to our single issues.

“Periods of Republican control are times of lower employment and bleeding of middle-class assets, setting back entire generations of families from their American Dream.”

A complete and utter misinterpretation of reality and history.
What is “control”? The White House, the Congress or both?

  11. on 10 Sep 2010 at 14:2511David Anderson

So condemning hundreds of thousands of embryos to death is okay, but tell a lie and that is it. According to surveys 93% of people admit to lying regularly. I guess that disqualifies most everyone.

I guess depriving sick people of cures that actually work is cool, but I guess not being great on deadlines is the worse.
I guess bankrupting America by supporting years of deficit spending is great, but being a victim of those policies is unforgivable.

There are many reasons to choose to support either candidate, but let’s not make up silly ones. If you don’t think Christine would be a credible senator, don’t vote for her. I won’t care. It is your choice. Mike Castle is the one that lost credibility in my eyes. The last little bit he had on fiscal issues went away when he voted for cap and trade. I then saw that I couldn’t trust him on either fiscal or social issues. I hope I am done with him.

On the scale of sin, they don’t compare. I however tend to keep the religious sin stuff in a religious discussion, but if you want to go there….

Thank you, David, for your ringing endrosement of life.

If Castle were to win, I would hesitatingly and with much revulsion, vote for the ancient RINO.
After which, I would never speak of it again.

Remember, Tuesday is dump the RINO day.

I am seriously considering voting for Coons if Castle wins on Tuesday. The DEGOP needs a wake up call and a reorganization. A Coons win would bring that about IMO. I just hope that we can win enough senate seats in other states to take majority. Castle needs to go for the good of this state party. He will continue to lead party leadership left until he is finally put out to pasture.

I would like to chortle with glee, except that I might be using your strategy to get rid of Carper if he runs again. God I wish Obama would appoint Carper to ride a desk somewhere. Who are you guys putting up against Carper anyway? If you run a non-teabagger I might vote for him or her.

What a silly issue, David. You would prefer embyos tossed to the ashcan or frozen forever?

That is not a fact, that is a fantasy.

    Here are some real facts…

The average eight year unemployment rate under Clinton was 5.2%

Under Bush the average eight year unemployment rate was 5.2%

The average white middle class family saw their income rise at the same rate under Bush as under Clinton.

The average black family saw their income rise at the same rate under Bush as they did under Clinton.

In fact they did better under Bush because Bush cut their taxes!

Bush did run up $2.2 trillion worth of federal deficits in eight years. That was a record…until…

Obama rang up $2.7 trillion in twenty four months!

But worry not…President Palin will be along in a couple of years to clean up his mess.

Me too. I am incensed at the tactics of Castle and the pathetic Delaware GOP ‘establishment.’

I would prefer them not to be frozen and stored like meat in a locker. The practice should be strictly regulated to prevent huge banks of “extras”. I would never allow it.

The babies should be adopted out not killed or frozen until they die. Unfortunately, they cannot be frozen forever.

  20. on 11 Sep 2010 at 07:4020Rick

The left has always had a callous disregard for life- the most heinous mass murderers in human history, Mao, Lenin and Stalin, were Marxists. And Margaret Sanger, founder of ‘Planned Parenthood,’ was a eugenicist, who wanted to ‘purge’ the U.S. of what she described to be ‘undesirable elements, like ‘Negroes.’

    Socialist-Democrat ‘liberal’ = Fraud.
