4 races to watch
Oct 30th, 2009 by David Anderson
Michael Barone gives his 4 races to watch. His views are always worth considering.
I do not see the 10th in CA as being one to watch unless it becomes an upset. The district has been reapportioned since a Republican held it in 1996. The 23rd NY is one to watch not because it is a referendum on President Obama, but because it is a referendum on the Republican party of New York.

The 23rd in NY is wild !
I can’t WAIT for the NJ Gov race to be over. The political ads are have been ruining my morning coffee for what seems to be forever
))
23rd NY doesn’t really matter in the long run…in ’10, it goes conservative anyway. If Christie wins in NJ, a super-blue state, then it can only be seen as a repudiation of BO’s socialist policies…even a close race will portend disaster for the Dems in ’10. In VA, Deeds’ ads have looked more like Obama ads, with Deeds’ name brought-up only at the end.
All that ‘hope and change’ hysteria will prove to have the longevity of a housefly, and in ’12, BO, bye-bye.
Stop the Commie bastards!
“Your plan won’t work. It is based on a faulty economic model which assumes that higher taxes will reduce the deficit and doesn’t recognize they will slow the economy…If you pass this plan, you’ll be a one-term President.”
Dick Armey to Bill Clinton, 1993
RedState: The NRCC Concedes Defeat in NY-23
RedState.com ^ | Friday, October 30th | Erick Erickson
That’s what it looks like and it reflects what I’ve been hearing too. The NRCC tells me directly that they are only spending money on anti-Owens ads. The anti-Hoffman YouTube? Gone. The anti-Hoffman press releases? Gone. The anti-Hoffman everything else? Gone. The pro-Dede Scozzafava stuff? Gone too. The RNC ground crews? They are pulling out to New Jersey. The Dede Scozzafava campaign says this is all false. Then again, they say she is a Republican too. H/T to Ali.
They tacitly backed Lieberman when he was an independent over the Republican who had no chance in a three way race. I was wondering when they were going to do it here. At least Hoffman will caucus with them. He is a Republican. The anti-Hoffman ads would have just made a Democrat victory possible which is the exact opposite of their interest. It took long enough for them to concede to reality.
BTW welcome back Shirley, it has been a joy to see you back in the blogosphere. I missed you.
Clinton would never have been elected without Ross Perot…period. The same situation may save Corzine in NJ.
And the reason the tax increases didn’t kill the economy is because the Republicans controlled the House of Representitves, and thus, the budget (“..all revenue bills shall originate in the House…”). Hence, the Socialist-Democrats couldn’t spend the surplus.
GOP Candidate Drops Out in Upstate New York House Race
Wall Street Journal ^ | 31 Oct 2009 | Naftali Bendavid
Another surprise in the hotly contested special House election in upstate New York: This morning, the Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava, suspended her campaign and released her supporters. She hasn’t endorsed either of her rivals, but told her local paper that a Siena Research Institute poll out today showed her too far behind to be a viable candidate.
Saw it, I was working on it and put the statement in the Regional politics post. Thanks. I would like to know how you think it will impact the race. Please go to the new post and add a comment.
