261st Returned Safely
Sep 30th, 2009 by David Anderson
Praise be to God, the 261st Signal Brigade of the Delaware Army National Guard returned from Iraq with everyone. It was a successful and historic mission. It was the first time that a Delaware General officer had active duty war time command since WW2 and it was the first time a Guard brigade ran signal operations for an entire war theater in about the same time frame. There can no longer be pretend divisions between the active and the guard. I welcome home my friends. They gave great credit to our state.
The event was short (about 40 minutes), but meaningful. The Vice President gave some meaningful words to the family and left to meet with the Generals regarding Afghanistan policy.
A political aside, some fellow readers sent messages to you. Representatives John Atkins and Darryl Scott sent their greetings to our readers as self described conservative Democrats. They also needled us that outside of State Auditor Tom Wagner no Republican Officials were present but many Democrats were. Okay guys don’t say that I did not relay your message. I truly thank you for coming. Rep. Saint Jacques also greeted us. As did Mr. Wagner. Former Representative Nancy Wagner was also around earlier.

I drove past on my lunch break. It was good to see them all home, very inspiring. Traffic wise it wasn’t too smart and I ended up getting back to my client’s office late.
It wasn’t too bad unless you had to go right in the area like you did (sorry for your luck). Blame the secret service for making it worse than it needed to be.
I loved the Dover Fire Department’s huge flag held by the two ladder trucks. The soldiers marching under the flag was a nice touch. It was very dramatic.
