State of the Union Reaction

Tonight we saw President Donald J. Trump. The best of America was on display including 2.4 million jobs, heroes who saved people in natural disasters, soldiers, coast guard pilot, a police officer who adopted a drug baby and Americans who lost a child to MS-13. Black unemployment is falling and to the lowest level in the history of record keeping and so is Hispanic unemployment. It is morning in America. Unfortunately, the resistance seems to think the best they can do is remind us that they have a Kennedy that has not left someone in a car with a prop. It was a horrible speech, but well delivered. It was just disconnected catch phrases with no connection and no vision. It is midnight in America. He cannot name one effort to roll back any civil rights protection in hundreds of executive actions, but it did not stop him from making up a fantasy world of fear and darkness. The Read more

Anderson’s Making Dover Prosper Initiative Succeeds: Dover Has 28% drop in unemployment while state stagnates

New unemployment Numbers for local Areas Released--Dover continues 4 month trend to prosperity: Councilman Anderson Celebrates City's Success The Delaware State News saw signs of change just a couple months after the passage of Anderson's Making Dover Prosper Initiative.  2 months later, the results are even more impressive.  Unemployment in Dover has dropped from 6.0 to 4.3%. The state went from 4.7 to 4.6% in the same time frame. Dover was far above the national rate, now it is at the national rate. Something good is happening and it is not by happenstance. Commonsense conservative polices work. "This is why it is so important to focus on what matters, said 4th District Dover Councilman David Anderson. "When we free job creators to create jobs, jobs get created, they get the credit", stated Anderson. "The best polices can fail if not implemented well. Planning, Inspections, Read more

It is time to join the civilized world and end late term abortion

Will America join the Civilized world and pass a ban on late term abortion after 20 weeks? It is ethically mandated that one provide anesthesia when operating to protect the preborn child from pain, yet it is perfectly acceptable to torture him or her for a couple of days then kill it. Delaware"s General Assembly voted last year to go backwards. It is worse than troubling. A society which sanctions violence against the most innocent should not be surprised when it reaps an attitude of violence on its streets. The protection of life begins with a culture of life. We need to value people, not for what they give us, but we need to value them because they are people. There is an inherent dignity to humanity given by our creator. That is why our Constitution says equal protection of the law exists and no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law. Whether Read more

A Tale of Two Marches

Friday there was a women led march that had 6 figures in attendance. The Fox News estimate was 650,000, all media estimates acknowledge 6 figures for the March for Life. Saturday another smaller march occurred, but with satellite marches including a huge march with an estimated 300,000 in Chicago for the Women's March. The satellite marches were ignored for the March for Life. The coverage difference says all you need to know about media bias. ABC, Fox News, CSPAN covered both reasonably not just a mention about one speaker. That gives me a hint who is real. Both were newsworthy events. Americans exercising their first amendment freedoms of speech, assembly, and right to petition their government is beautiful to me. It would be even better if the press would live up to their job of facilitating the sharing and debate of ideas instead of being a gatekeeper of the ideas worthy if sharing. Read more

Group calls shutdown a national embarrassment

Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said the following about the government shutdown: It’s a sad day when a country’s leaders can’t even agree to keep the government open. The shutdown is counterproductive; it’s a national embarrassment; and it’s a symbol of just how broken the budget process and political system are. Both parties need to come together and reach a prompt agreement to re-open the government. The priority should be to immediately open the government and agree on a fiscally responsible budget deal to set discretionary caps and appropriate funds while reducing the long-term national debt. Resolution over the current impasse should not come at the expense of the economy and next generation by greasing the wheels with more tax cuts and spending increases that add tens of billions of dollars a year to the deficit. Schumer Shutdown May be beginning of the end of Democrat Dreams for Control

Senate Democrats would rather not fund national security or the child health insurance program for states than give Trump a victory on the wall even to get citizenship for DACA recipients. They choose DACA recepients over citizens by most counts, but DACA has not expired, it has nothing to do with the budget, but they blocked the appropriations bill for 3 months so they could have additional leverage. They could have had a deal, according to Pelosi, a year ago. They are close to one now, but they decided to make a show of shutting down the government in order to keep Republicans from getting credit for solving a problem that they would not when they controlled everything. It is not that they care first about the DACA recipients. They are confident that they will have a wave election. They may do so, but there are a lot of reasons why that may not happen. The economy rising will make Read more
