What’s Your Take on 2012?

The year in review is prevalent. From shootings to Mars probes to Presidential politics this has been an interesting year. Superstorm Sandy and super you tube sensations all swept into our consciousness this year. A number of cultural icons passed this year from actors to musicians to generals to politicians in the circle of life. What is your take on 2012.

The Jerry Wood I knew

I first met Jerry Wood in 2007. We had a meeting with a staff member of Mike Castle. Many conservative Delawareans, including myself, were concerned and upset with Mike Castle's vote on the carbon tax in 2007. There were downstate Republicans at this meeting. We expressed concern that Mike Castle did not get it. His votes were killing him. After a somewhat frustrating exchange. Jerry Wood announced that if Mike Castle did not change his positions, then he, Jerry Wood, would primary Mike Castle. Up until this time, Jerry had said very little. Jerry's challenge was not taken seriously. This was a mistake. I told the Castle crew that Jerry was very serious. I informed them that they were in deep trouble. I informed them that Castle was already losing the Republican base in southern Delaware. Jerry and I next got together in 2008. We toured Minneapolis. Jerry moved Read more

Guest Post By Duke Brooks

Guest post by Duke Brooks, communications director, Sussex Republican Committee. It would be difficult, if not impossible, for me to imagine a person who had a bigger impact on my life in a shorter period of time than my friend, Jerry Wood I met Jerry in March when he asked me to be his press spokesman. I was honored but quickly realized that I didn't know many "ins-and outs" of Delaware politics. Like any political structure, the Delaware GOP has factions, personalities, alliances...all the normal intrigues that make politics difficult. Jerry's understated demeanor and easy-going personality made the job a pleasure. He knew "where the bodies are buried," as they say, and he knew what to say, when to say it, and to whom it should be said. He always explained to me his reasons, and they always made sense, in short, his judgment was excellent and his thinking was always clear. To Read more

Proposed 28th Amendment To The Constitution

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:
“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States .”
Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for imposing unlawful burdens upon them. It takes 38 of the 50 states to convene a Constitutional Convention. What do you think; should children of the Congress have monetary and other special privileges that other taxpayers are unable to enjoy?

Does This Help Anyone?

I am going to go out on a very thin emotional limb here. I know that this may not be a popular opinion, but I have to put this question out there anyway.    It is being reported that, quote, "the first legal action", has been filed in relation to the Newtown, Conn. shooting.     A $100 million claim on behalf of a 6-year-old survivor, identified as "Jill Doe", claiming that the child heard, "cursing, screaming, and shooting" over the school intercom when the gunman opened fire, according to New Haven-based attorney Irv Pinsky.   The claim states, "As a consequence, the ... child has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined,"   The claim was filed on Thursday with state Claims Commissioner J. Paul Vance Jr., who will decide whether the claim can be filed as a lawsuit against the state.    Read more

If We Had Only Known

Like so many people in our lives I didn't take the time to get to know Jerry Wood, if I had only known that his time was so short, I might have taken the time to find out more about him personally.   That being said I won't now attempt to say that I knew him well at all, at least not on a personal level.   I first saw Jerry at Sussex County GOP meetings that I was attending as a visitor, at that time Jerry was just another of the older gentlemen across the room. My first conversation with Jerry was at a meeting to organize volunteers for Christine O'Donnell.    On a personal level what I remember most about Jerry is that he was one of the quiet ones at meetings, but when he did have something to say it was usually of a positive nature, always it seemed with an eye towards moving the GOP in a more conservative direction.   I only knew Jerry for a short time, however Read more

A Tribute To Jerry Wood, Mighty Huge Shoes To Fill

I knew Jerry but a short time of his seventy-four years in this life, but they became exciting years for me. I met Jerry at a Monthly Regional Meeting of the Sussex County GOP, between three and four years ago. They've gone by so quickly, I can't remember the exact date. At that time, he asked if I would consider becoming part of the Sussex GOP Committee. During my initial meeting with Jerry, I became aware of the quality of his life. A true Conservative Republican, Jerry was always working at growing the republican party and always seemed to have a plan. It wasn't long before he asked me to work on a committee to recruit new Elective District Chairpersons and of course Jerry was the originator of the Sussex County Conservative Caucus, which had it's humble beginnings in someone's house. The Caucus soon grew rapidly and moved to the Manor House on Rt. 9, Lewes. We were considered Read more

Delaware Politics lost a friend today and more importantly so did I. It is reported that at 0845 hrs this morning, my friend Jerry Wood departed this life. He had earlier announced that he would not seek a second term due to health concerns, after a very successful tenure where he gained three seats--two designed for candidates in the other party in reapportionment, and forced the Democrats to fight hard for two seats, one county and one state representative seat, thought to be safe. He died with his boots on, giving every Read more

A Great American Passed Over the Jordan–General Norman Schwarzkopf dead at 78

Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com He was not only known as a fine general, but his later life was devoted to charitable causes especially those for children.  His leadership in the area of charity and service will be missed on the national stage. I have especially enjoyed occasional insights into his wit and wisdom over the years.  I think my three favorite Norman Schwarzkopf quotes are these. Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character, but if you must be without one, be without the strategy. Any soldier worth his salt should be anti-war, and still there are things worth fighting for. Courage brother, do not stumble, though thy path be dark as night: There is a star to guide the humble, trust in God, and do the right. Let the road be dark and dreary and its end far out of sight. Face it bravely, strong or weary. Trust God, and do. The Bear is Read more

President Obama Criticized for Hosting Korean Music Star

Back in 2004, PSY sang the words “Kill those f—-ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives” and “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers.” Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2012/12/psy-gives-obama-a-chance-to-take-a-stand-85146.html#ixzz2GBl3HqoZ I think we can all agree to condemn such anti-Americanism. The question that I have is should their be a statue of limitations on holding a grudge for what someone said? The guy now has a video that has a billion views. He is no longer criticizing America now that the war that he hated is over, but celebrating it. Is the President wrong? I hate what he said 8 years ago, but I have to wonder if there is a point to letting bygones being bygones. If we can accept American traitors like Jane Fonda, why would we hold a foreigner who merely said something to a higher standard. Now he is part of the Read more

The Greatest Pollution Danger

The greatest pollution threat may be the one that you create. It is not the nuclear power plant, but the chemicals that you use in your own home. The average air freshener does more harm than the average new car. The cleaner that you use may be worse than the feared leakage into your water. We often focus on the wrong items. A cleaner environment is easier and closer than you think. Run through this checklist in your own home. The time is to step up and protect our families from corporate polluters is now and it does not mean waiting for new legislation, just new habits. Breastfeeding Good for Society

Children who are breastfed for at least 6 months are healthier, smarter, less likely to be obese, and less likely to suffer mental illness later in life. The jump in autism in recent decades may have to do with infant formula. It seems like the best public policy is not gun control, government controlling food for kids, or more government daycares for infants, it is encouraging women to breastfeed their children. It is interesting that now due to the economy more low income women are home with their infants, the children are healthier and preschool aged obesity is declining because more are able to breastfeed. Maybe we should think about nature before we impose policies to force women out of the home against their will when they have infants? Just as a side note, all women and children cannot nurse. Sometimes formula is the best route. This is not meant to guilt trip women and men Read more

Benghazi–2012 Scandal of the Year

Senator Marco Rubio had the best characterization of the new independent report. He said that it showed this was a planned act of terror not related to some obscure video. His office released this statement last week. Rubio Statement on Independent Report Regarding Attacks on U.S. Mission Facility and Annex in Benghazi Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after an independent report was released regarding the attacks on the U.S. mission facility and annex in Benghazi: “The independent report on the September 11 attacks on our mission facility and annex in Benghazi confirms what we have long known to be true: that Ambassador Stevens and the other Americans who lost their lives in the attacks could have been saved by better protection, Read more

He Saved Us–Earns Jamie Foxx Loser of the Year

What did he save us from economic growth, jobs, and freedom? No, my problem is not with President Obama here, I am sure he would not endorse this. It is with the disrespect of our values by the Hollywood elite. Respectfully, President Obama can't even save us from his own debt crisis, high unemployment, and interminable war. Why put him in the same sentence with we thank God and our lord and savior Barack Obama? Hollywood seems to have no respect for our faith and values. Once again, this is not about the President, who I am sure would not sanction this, but about the continued blaspheme and degrading of faith by some in the pop culture. Enough is enough. I am tired of filth in movies, TV, and music. I am tired of seeing faith ridiculed. I am taking my stand. The Lord our GOD is one. You Mr. Foxx are the Delaware Politics Loser of the Year. His Holiness Benedict XVI 2012 Christmas Message, English Translation

Dear brothers and sisters in Rome and throughout the world, a happy Christmas to you and your families! In this Year of Faith, I express my Christmas greetings and good wishes in these words taken from one of the Psalms: "Truth has sprung out of the earth". Actually, in the text of the Psalm, these words are in the future: "Kindness and truth shall meet; / justice and peace shall kiss. / Truth shall spring out of the earth, /and justice shall look down from heaven. / The Lord himself will give his benefits; / our land shall yield its increase. / Justice shall walk before him, / and salvation, along the way of his steps" (Ps 85:11-14). Today these prophetic words have been fulfilled! In Jesus, born in Bethlehem of the Virgin Mary, kindness and truth do indeed meet; justice and peace have kissed; truth has sprung out of the earth and justice has looked down from heaven. Wise Words From The Past

Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott who died in the Columbine tragedy gave this testimony on May 27, 1999 that rocked a nation. Too bad we didn't listen. The Scott Family has gone on to create Rachel's Challenge, which is credited with preventing 7 school shootings and 500 suicides. Follow the preceding link to read the complete transcript. Here are excerpts. "Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. "The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. Read more

2013 Cut Backs

It has been announced that due to rising healthcare cost that will be imposed on small business owners as the health care plan now known as Obama-care is implemented, some small businesses will be forced to make deep cuts into their work forces and to make changes to the full-time status of many employees.   Unfortunately this will include the small business known as North Pole Enterprises, also know as Santa Claus.   Santa has announced that in the coming year of 2013 he will be forced to cut his elf force in half, and the remaining elves will be cut to only 38 hours a week and no longer considered full-time employees due benefits.   This of course will put a great burden upon the remaining elves to fill the growing demand for toys. It is believed that Santa will most likely have to pick up a hammer himself and possibly even Mrs. Claus will be forced out of the kitchen and Read more
